Huge: Williston's New Recreation Center -- Has Just Gotten Bigger

Link to Williston Herald. Please go to the link to see the artist's drawing. Absolutely spectacular.

Data points:
  • now up to 241,000 square feet (originally, 204,000 square feet)
  • $67 million
  • to be located on the campus of Williston State College
  • water center (see more below)
  • indoor playground
  • racquetball courts
  • golf simulator
  • an indoor track
  • tennis courts
  • turf field
  • basketball courts
  • meeting rooms
  • "and more"
There is disagreement over the quality of the water park complex. Williston Park Board President says the water center will "top-flight." The developer says it will be "spectacular":
  • a 50-meter competition pool; half million gallons of water
  • an instruction pool nearly the same size as Williston's current indoor pool in the Hagan Aquatic Center
  • a lazy river with two water slides overhead
  • a walk-in leisure pool with overhead fountains
  • a whirlpool
  • and, a surf simulator (like those commonly seen at water-theme parks)
I think "a spectacular, top-flight, water park" sounds about right.

Actually, this is really, really incredible.

    1. We're traveling today so I probably would have missed it. I was going to say something when "we" hit 210 earlier today (one short of the "old" record) but didn't want to jinx anything. Smile.

So, thank you for sending me the note.

    2. 214,000 is awesome! Williston will have a first class rec center, that is for sure! I'm wondering if down the road they will add "ice" (this would have to be built by the college though).

It would make sense since the complex will be located on the Williston State campus, and Williston State now has a college hockey program. It would only make sense.

    3. Yes, you are correct. I was mentioning this to my wife. It is truly quite spectacular; what a great center for the city. Two huge indoor pools.
