From my perspective, the single major problem with the US economy is the housing industry and raising interest (mortgage) rates won't help solve that problem. A tax break for new single-unit housing would go a long way to solving this problem. Let's say homeowners of newly-constructed homes from 2026 - 2030 would get a doubling of that tax deduction on all interest payments -- all interest payments, not just housing -- for those tax years. And companies who build houses would get similar tax breaks.
The fact that the government is not more helpful with regard to the housing industry speaks volumes.
Housing affects many, many other facets of the economy.
