The Work That Needs To Be Done In The Bakken Will "Never" End -- Updating The CLR Kennedy-MIles Pad -- November 11, 2019

The wells on the CLR Kennedy-Miles pad are all coming back on line. Several of them were on the IA list for several months, but it appears they are all active again; the few that might still be off line will probably also come back on line this next month (paperwork lags about two months what is going on in the field.

I was almost done updating the pad when Sophia woke up. We are now on our way to McDonald's for breakfast!

Random Update Of A Huge Petro-Hunt Well In The Charlson That Just Went Over 1,000,000 Bbls -- November 11, 2019

I've followed this well for quite some time and have posted updates several times.

This page will not be updated, but I figure that a well that goes over a million bbls in the Bakken deserves a stand-alone post. In this case, note the times this well has had a jump in production.

It would be interesting to know the likely percentage of OOIP that this well is capturing.

Shout-Out To A Bruin Fort Berthold Well Drilled In 2013 -- Just Went Over 500,000 Bbls -- November 11, 2019

The well:
  • #20879 has two laterals, drilled at separate times. They have different names: -1H and -2H but yet carry the same permit number, #20879.
  • 20879, 2,709, Bruin/HRC, Fort Berthold 147-94-1A-12-2H, McGregory Buttes, t1/14; cum 501K 9/19; off-line as of 9/18; see this note, 10/18; back on line 11/18; nice recovery with production now again over 2,000 bbls/month

This well was spud 4/5/2010 and 7/5/11 (see scout ticket below):

  • 18341, 567, HRC, Fort Berthold 147-94-1A-12-1H, t10/11; cum 660K 9/19;
It was not completed until more than a year later, 10/26/2.
  • 10/7/11: an open hole, 29-stage frack, with 3 million lbs sand;
  • 6/29/10: an open hole frack attempted, 200,000 lbs sand; "the well was killed after flowback frac due to fishing for wireline. This lateral has also been plugged back.
The well:
  • 27522, 4,207, Whiting, Flatland Federal 11-4TFHU, Twin Valley, spacing: 2560-acre; t10/14; cum 553K 9/19; huge jump, 3/19 from 3,000 bbls/month to 14,000 bbls/month;
The well:
  • 20342, 1,430, Petro-Hunt, USA 153-95-4B-9-1H, t11/11; cum 1.026493 million bbls; went IA 1/14; still inactive as of 6/14; back on line and tracked here; huge jump in 7/17; another huge jump, 1/19;
This well just went over 500,000 bbls:

Notes From All Over, Part 1 -- November 11, 2019

Global warming: it's going to be really, really cold today. Chicago might get a bit of snow. Not even winter yet -- another month to go.


Speaking of global warming, the New York AG walks back the claim that XOM is guilty of defrauding investors on global warming claims. At best it appears, XOM is accused of "investor confusion." So, at worse, XOM gets a bad headline, but this pretty much ends any financial risk to XOM and all other oil companies. These are always confusing cases to sort out -- how much effect they will have on XOM as an investment -- the best way to check that is to look at XOM's share price at the time of the news. Today, on Veterans Day, on a day that the market is down overall, XOM is down a whopping 50 cents. This suggests to me this whole thing is a nothing-burger. 

Apple, Inc: new MacPro spotted in the wild; probably a "marketing" leak. Just in time for Christmas.
The all-new ‌‌Mac Pro‌‌ boasts up to 28-core Intel Xeon processors, up to 1.5TB of ECC RAM, up to 4TB of SSD storage, and up to AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics with 64GB of HBM2 memory. The computer also has eight PCIe expansion slots for maximum performance, expansion, and configurability. 
The ‌Mac Pro‌ starts at $5,999, so this machine is only for the most serious professional users. They could also twin it with the $6,000 Pro Display XDR, which is expected to be released at the same time.

NDIC Data Probably Won't Be Reported Until Tomorrow -- November 11, 2019

First things first: the comic page.

That "new" Iranian oil field announced over the weekend? Not that big a deal. New details released. Turns out this field was previously identified, and the reserves estimates have simply been increased. In addition, the recovery rate looks a bit slim. Data points -- with a bit of politics and opinion throw in --
  • Iran
  • "new" oil reservoir called "Namavaran"
    • previously proven reserves in the field: 31.3 billion bbls
    • new proven reserve in the field: 22 billion bbls
    • total proven reserve in the field: 53.3 billion bbls
  • "new" recoverable oil with recovery rate of 10%: 2.2 billion bbls 
    • at one million bopd, would last about 5 years
  • not so "new" oilfield -- estimates, 53 billion bbls or oil
  • located in the country's oil-rich Khuzestan province 
  • Iran oil exports
    • prior to sanctions: 2.5 million bopd
    • currently, with sanctions: one-half million bopd

RBN Energy: Tallgrass projects to boost eastbound gas flows from the Rockies' Cheyenne hub.
After a months-long regulatory delay, two Tallgrass Energy-led natural gas projects have progressed in the past month that will expand takeaway options out of the growing Denver-Julesburg (D-J) production area. Tallgrass in early October began construction on the Cheyenne Connector pipeline and the Rockies Express Pipeline’s Cheyenne Hub Enhancement — aimed at expanding outbound capacity and destination optionality for growing natural gas supplies from the Denver-Julesburg play in the Niobrara Shale, as well as providing a new outlet for Powder River Basin gas. The projects also have secured additional capacity commitments in recent weeks. And in its earnings call last week, Tallgrass said that DCP Midstream, which was already a shipper on Cheyenne Connector, has exercised its option to purchase 50% interest in the project. The influx of gas supply at Cheyenne Hub resulting from these projects will boost eastbound flows on Rockies Express (REX), which is in the midst of recontracting its capacity as existing long-term contracts roll off today. Next, we provide an update on the company’s plans to increase takeaway capacity out of the D-J basin and PRB.
