Something New? How To Capture Otherwise Orphaned Oil -- February 22, 2025

Locator: 48413SPACING.

A little different way of recovering otherwise orphaned oil? I assume this has gone on before but I've not seen it, or if I have, I've forgotten.

BR: instead of using 4-section / 2560-acre drilling units to capture otherwise orphaned oil, BR is going back to 2-section / 1280-section drilling units, and hoping to capture that otherwise orphaned oil by requesting a reduction in the section line setbacks (bottom holes will be close to the drilling unit lines:

  • 31560, BR, Elidah-Bakken, i) terminate an overlapping 2560-acre unit; ii) retain two  1280-acre units but reduce the section line setbacks, McKenzie County.
  • 31561, BR, Elidah and/or Twin Valley Bakken; i) terminate an overlapping 2560-acre unit; and ii) retain the two 1280-acre units, but reduce the section line setbacks, McKenzie County;
  • 31562, BR, amend Dimmick Lake-Bakken, i) terminate an overlapping 2560-acre unit; ii) retain the two 1280-acre units but reduce the setbacks; McKenzie County.
  • 31563, BR, Jim Creek-Bakken, amend, i) terminate an overlapping 3840-acre unit; ii) retain the two 1920-acre units but reduce the setbacks; Dunn County;
  • 31564, BR, Jim Creek-Bakken, amend, i) terminate an overlapping 2560-acre unit; retain the two 1280-acre unit but reduce the setbacks; Dunn County;

See NDIC hearing dockets for March, 2025.

Other operators appears to be sticking with the "tried and true" larger overlapping units.
