Via Carpe Diem, the latest op-ed piece from Harold Hamm, CEO of CLR.
As the oil industry completes its infrastructure design phase and enters its full development phase in 2012 and 2013, there’s good news for residents, officials and community leaders in the oil communities experiencing this remarkable growth. Soon, nearly all of the infrastructure needed to develop the Bakken will be in place, and western North Dakota is settling into a period of steady growth. There are 115 words in the quote above. The most interesting word: "longer." Last sentence. As in "longer than 30 years."
We appreciate North Dakotans’ cooperation and patience in tackling the challenge of infrastructure in the Bakken. Now that the area of the oil field is defined, the objective going forward is to optimize production and improve efficiency over the lifespan of the field, which is projected to be longer than 30 years.

I wish there was an M Ellis well but they scrapped it early on in the drill stage.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, it seems I remember reading that somewhere, but maybe I'm dreaming/my imagination. So, we'll see.
DeleteYour memory is good, I did mention this to you a long time ago when talking about Brigham's Mark 4-9 in the Williston-Bakken field. (Ellis was going off the same pad, problem, then scrapped)
DeleteMark 4-9 comes off confidential list on August 11th I think. May runs for that well was 28,589. (according to NDIC monthly production for May)
Growing up in Williston, I know the family names and this is one family name I know very, very well. And, if I remembered, that was the reason -- the family name caught my eye, etc.
DeleteAnd, all my memories of Williston are good memories. I can be reminded of some tough times, and some tough situations, but taken in the aggregate I have only positive memories.
Maybe you remember the Snyder's as well. They owned the theater and the Drive In. I married one.
DeleteI don't want this to sound sacrilegious, so I will say it this way. Among the gods on Mount Olympus, I always thought the Snyders walked among them. Anyone who owned a movie theater, or two, or three, in Williston, was really, really okay in my book. You have no idea how well I remember, and how much I enjoyed, the Saturday matinees. We didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up in Williston (I don't think anyone did), but somehow my mom found me the quarter or whatever it took to get into a Saturday matinee. And then, the most exciting day: birthday party and the host took us to "Guns of Navarone." Wiki says that was a 1961 movie, so I must have been 10 or 11 when I saw it.
DeleteWow, great memories.
If I heard it right, OXY said all their oil growth was Bakken growth. Hmmm

You are much better with details than I am. I thought the gist of the OXY conversation was that overall, their production worldwide increased, but they had decreases overseas. They said most of their production increase came from the Bakken. That leaves some production in their California holdings, I suppose. However, it was, it was very, very surprising to hear that.

Dueling stories, I guess:
Deletehttp://www.milliondollarwayblog.com/2012/07/transcanada-gets-final-permit-for.html
1. The linked story in "last leg of Keystone pipeline" refers to Gulf Coast portion.
2. The State Department won't make a decision on the cross-Canada border portion until after the election.
3. The "gap" remains as far as I know.
I particularly appreciate the source of the story: InsideClimate News in the most recetn link.
Yep.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing that upsets bump. (It isn't the bankruptcy, overturned cars, or shut mines that bother him.) Did you know that UPI still exists, barely?

It doesn't look like I'm missing much not reading the Grist.
