More On the Eco-Pad Permit Noted Yesterday -- Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Yesterday it was noted that CLR has four permits for an Eco-Pad series:
  • File numbers: 20609, 20610, 20611, and 20612; a Salo/Hamlet Eco-Pad in section 35-160-96
  • The two Salo wells will be long laterals going north, sections 35/26 in T160N-R96W
  • The two Hamlet wells will be long laterals going south, sections 2/11 in T160N-R96W
  • Spacing for all wells, according to the GIS map server: 1280-acre
There are already two producing wells in the same sections:
  • 17587, 807, CLR, Salo 1-26H, spud 10/12/09; IP test date 4/11/10; total cumulative 59K,
  • 17429, 435, CLR, Hamlet 1-11H, spud 9/26/08; IP test date 12/9/08; total cumulative 101K,
  • Both are running about 2,000 barrels oil/month, slow decline now
At 101K cumulative, that well may be close to paying for itself (at the wellhead); if so, nice cash flow for the next 25 years as well as holding the acreage by production for more Bakken wells, or other formation.

Note: the relative short period to bring on-line #17429 compared to #17587, suggests problems with the well, or most likely, already seeing fracking backlog.

  1. Bruce,
I believe Hamlet 1-11H CLR is located in 159n 96w just south of 160n96w. We are receiving royalties from that well and I believe Hamlet 2-11H is
coming off confidental list in April. We have been told two more wells will go into those two sections so I am wondering if the two wells will be those southern laterals. There is so much activity that it is hard to know which Hamlet well they are talking about. Hot area for CLR.

  2. According to the GIS map server, Hamlet 1-11H (17429) is about two miles south of the township line (160/159N) in section 11 of T159N-R96W, and is a long lateral running north through sections 11 and 2 of T159. Hamlet 2-11H (#19290) is immediately adjacent to Hamlet 1-11H. I did not mention it in my note above because based on the permit application, I believe it will be a long lateral running south into the Temple oil field, and not the Hamlet oil field where the four horizontals of the Hamlet/Salo Eco-Pad will drain.

So, yes, you are correct: two more wells (from the Eco-Pad) should be draining the same two sections of Hamlet 1-11H, although they will be running from the north to the south, whereas, Hamlet 1-11H is running from the south to the north according to the GIS map server.

For folks receiving royalty payments from Hamlet 1-11H, if they have acreage in sections 2/11 of 159-60, they should be seeing two more CLR horizontals.

Hopefully I have that all correct.

And you are correct: Hamlet 2-11H, #19290, comes off the confidential list on April 9, 2011.

  3. Bruce-

I follow your blog at least two, maybe three times a day. Thank you so much for devoting so much time and energy to the Bakken!!

Observation: Is your statement about Continentals bopd for the Salo and Hamlet correct?..."Both are running about 2,000 bopd, slow decline now"

Seems high compared to their initial bopd.

  4. Thank you for catching that error. Another typographical on my part.

It should be 2,000 barrels of oil PER MONTH. Thank you for catching that error.

And thank you for your kind comments. More later; my batteries are low on this computer and I am somewhere where I cannot recharge easily.
