Time to do a deep dive into Palantir.

I started a position earlier this summer, and added to it every week or so. But it's getting crazy.

Will have to do a deep dive this weekend.

Will start with the Austin article in The New Yorker from February, 2023, about a year and a half ago. And then wiki. That will be a nice start. Barron’s.

Ticker:

Back of the envelope, numbers rounded, estimated (disclaimer: I often make simple arithmetic errors).

This will be fascinating.

Unimportant, but fun, link here:

EVs:

However, the study points out that there is a problem: today, most OEMs do not make a profit from the sale of EVs. In fact, these vehicles often cost $12,000 more to produce than comparable vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (ICEs) in the small- to midsize car segment and the small-utility-vehicle segment.
What is more, carmakers often struggle to recoup those costs through pricing alone. The result: apart from a few premium models, OEMs stand to lose money on almost every EV sold, which is clearly unsustainable. [Well, duh.] Rivian lost $32,705 on every vehicle it produced last quarter.

  • How bad is it? Look what Ford is offering, link here. My hunch, the Ford CFO is not happy.
