KOG's outlier:
  • 19827, 515, Rimrock/KOG/WPX, Skunk Creek 2-24-25-16H, Mandaree; s4/11; t10/11; cum 319K 6/19; cum 374K 9/23;
Anyone want to guess why?  Drum roll: two (2) stimulation stages; "skip 1, 3, and 4" -- only frack stages 2 and 5 using 20/40 Teng/Fel; 350K lbs proppant (for newbies: the "norm" -- 24+ stages; 2 million + pounds of proppant)

This supports a "private theory" of mine that I have not posted. Maybe time to post that "theory."

[Update: don't ask; I've long forgotten what that "private theory" was. No one asked at the time, so I must have lost interest. -- February 25, 2017.]

Now, for comparison, let's look at:
  • 19587, 2,665, Rimrock/KOG, Skunk Creek 12-10-11-9H, South Fork;  t10/11; cum 367K 3/19; off line as of3/19;
Yup, there it is: 30 stages; 4.3 million pounds of proppant (20/40 ISP)

      1. Bruce,

        I appreciate the time and effort that you put into your blog. I for one would be interested in reading about your theory as I have interests in the South Fork and the Heart Butte oil fields (now just hoping that the Twin Buttes oil field expands southward to include some minerals that I own down there).

      2. Actually it's pretty common sense, but I haven't seen a lot of talk about it; I'll probably talk about it in a stand-alone post down the road. It affect the entire Bakken, so nothing specific for the Heart Butte or South Fork. Both of those fields, as you already know, are going to be great fields.

        Thanks for this update Bruce. I've been in KOG for 2+ years now and their prospects just keep getting better.
        I've said it before and I'll say it again and again...I greatly appreciate your efforts here in keeping us updated on all things(and some Off Topic subjects too) Bakken.
        Best wishes to you and your family.
        2012 is going to be a blowout year for the Bakken.

        1. 1. Thank you for your kind words. I often do these updates because I literally can't keep up with all that is going on in the Bakken. What I find is fairly superficial, but at least it's a start, and I think it gives folks an idea of what's going on out there. Best wishes to you and your family also. (I might post how I spent the day today and why I was late with my updates.)

          2. Yes, KOG is very interesting, and as you know, I listed it as the most interesting producer for 2011 (in my end of the year top story list that everyone does).

          3. 2012 is going to be a huge year for the Bakken assuming there is minimal government interference. But with all that money flowing into the Bakken, my concern is both the federal govt and the state govt are going to look at ways to tap in.
