On the local news tonight, it was reported that Dallas County (Texas) has reached "herd immunity" -- defined by adding those who were diagnosed with natural disease and the number of folks vaccinated.
That fact alone should raise a number of questions, a number of story lines.
Now add this data point: in Dallas County (Texas) 80 - 90% of the very elderly have been fully vaccinated. At the other end of the spectrum, something like 20% of the 24 - 34 age group have been fully vaccinated.
That, too, should raise a number of questions regarding herd immunity.
I've always considered "herd immunity" across the entire herd, not just part of the herd. It looks like the elderly part of the herd has been vaccinated; the younger part of the herd has not been vaccinated. To me, that does not constitute "herd immunity."
Although the state reported "herd immunity" in Dallas County (Texas) today, July 7, 2021, in fact, that milestone was reached on July 4, 2021.
