I told you that the natgas capture rules would hurt production. It's common sense. If the companies could sell gas, they would. They're not doing it because it's either not economical or because the government (often the Feds) blocks right of way for gas pipes. In either case (more costly to process than flare, or just no pipe at all), it will have a negative impact on production. All this blather about "creativity" was just technoliberal silliness.
Should have never put this policy in place. It doesn't help with the liberals since they want to shut it all down regardless. Better off being full badass and just letting the night skies burn.
Agree 1000%. I don't know what I last said about flaring -- for all I know I last said i supported flaring rules -- but I do know that early on I said that the state stepping in to regulate flaring was a huge mistake.
If I wavered in my thoughts on this, I was way wrong. You are absolutely correct. To some extent perhaps, the state's involvement has made it easier for companies like ONEOK to get get established/expand, but I'm sure most would argue that natural gas processing would have occurred with/without the state regulating flaring.
We'll never know to what extent flaring rules will affect oil production in North Dakota but my hunch is that if Lynn Helms said flaring regulations would be a detriment to crude oil production for years to come, he was throwing that out as a political statement as much as a factual statement.
