Well, it turns out another Minnesota company is going to set up shop in North Dakota, this time in Devils Lake.
A Minnesota-based manufacturer of "green" food service products plans to open a wheat straw pulping and molding factory in Devils Lake, creating at least 100 jobs in the North Dakota city within two years. It would have been interesting to hear the reasons why. My hunch: taxes, regulations, and work force.
CEO Mack Traynor, of Plymouth, MN-based Ultra Green, says the company hopes to eventually expand to as many as 400 jobs.
Ultra Green sells more than 100 products, from pizza pans to bakeware.
Why Devils Lake? Probably abundance of water.
ReplyDeleteWhy a market for these products? In Portland Oregon, for example, garbage is picked up every other week, while recycling and composting is picked up weekly. Garbage is trucked 200 miles away so there is a big cost savings to the city to find alternatives. Consumers save also because a smaller garbage can is needed if almost everthing is recycled or composted.
Minnesota: land of 10,000 lakes.
DeleteThere is probably more wheat grown in any one county in North Dakota than the entire state of MN..
ReplyDeleteIt's 90 miles from Devils Lake to East Grand Forks.
DeletePretty sure he's got family in Devil's Lake and is moving back home. The Traynor family have been attorneys in Devil's Lake since the 1950's.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best I've heard. Thank you. But business is business.
