New Elementary School In Williston, ND -- October 12, 2024

Locator: 48564B.

From Geoff Simon's weekly newsletter:

Williston Basin School District #7, October 4, 2024, groundbreaking ceremony construction of a new elementary school.

The school, which will serve children grades Pre-K though 5, will be located on a 15-acre parcel in Williston Square, the site of the city's former airport.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held in partnership with JLG Architects, JE Dunn Construction, and the City of Williston. Voters approved a $35 million bond in April to support the project. The total cost of the construction work is about $55 million, with the balance coming from the district's building fund.

The building will have capacity for 600-plus students, allowing the district to bring fifth graders back into elementary schools from Williston Middle School Central Campus. Elementary facilities will be able to operate at or below the goal of 25 students per classroom.
It will also help reduce the district's reliance on modular classrooms, although they will not be removed until a second elementary project is approved.

The Williston district is challenged by its growing enrollment. A recent demographic study projects an enrollment increase of about 1,000 students in the next five years. The current capacity allows for about 2,200 elementary students, including multiple modular classrooms.
