I was shocked with the dry wells at first seeings how they are essentially just north of Watford City with nothing but surrounding successful wells. Reading the well file answers the question. "The well was intended to be executed as a three string well. However, due to the drilling of an adjacent well located on the same pad, the Operator plugged this well and will submit a replacement permit with a four-string design." The one file i'm looking at the well was only drilled to 2315'
ReplyDeleteYes, I've talked about that before. I have said a couple of times on the blog, "there is no such thing as a 'dry hole" in the Bakken. Wherever they drill in the Bakken, there will be oil. The only reason for a "dry" Bakken well is a problem with drilling the well -- like collapsed casing, bad cement job -- or a problem as you've described. But I seldom even look up a reason for a "dry" hole any more. There's always a reason but it isn't because there's no oil there.
