NFL To End Mandatory Covid-19 Testing On Asymptomatic, Vaccinated Individuals -- December 19, 2021

Finally, a step in the right direction.

NFL makes major change in Covid-19 testing protocol.

The NFL will stop mandating weekly COVID-19 tests for asymptomatic vaccinated players, according to memos distributed Saturday that described a major shift in the league's approach to the pandemic.

The new protocols, which take effect next week, could allow the virus to spread undetected through locker rooms, and could increase opportunities for infected but otherwise healthy players to participate in games.

This is a huge story. It will be interesting to see who follows the NFL.

  1. All three leagues, NFL/NBA/NHL, painted themselves into a protocol corner by being uber PC in testing. Given pro athletes are in prime shape and vaxed, the need for NFL testing standards were extreme.
Now we have omicron, being touted as a bad cold or normal flu, and yet leagues are locked into self imposed rules.
Talk about killing the golden goose....

    1. On top of that, the testing continued and protocols followed even when stadiums were overflowing with unmasked, unvaxxed, and untested fans.

    2. The good news: the NFL seems to be the first major "operation / business / corporation" in the US to make a step in the right direction: no random, routine testing of asymptomatic, unvaccinated individuals. Now, if they would only take the next step.

  2. i'd get banned from twitter for saying it, but it's the asymptomatic vaccinated people who are spreading the disease...

    1. Well, the good news, with Omicron -- everyone is asymptomatic. The NFL figured that out.
