Wow, that imported hydroelectricity is expensive.
This is ISO New England. Regular readers know the issues here.
Look at the marginal cost of electricity today -- over $80 all afternoon, and spiking to $240/MWh. This is, frankly, unbelievable.
Note in the "fuel mix graph" that when the "normal grid" could not keep up, there was spike in hydro-electricity.
Note: the folks in New England get about as much of their electricity from burning oil as from renewable energy when "demand" spikes. See this post.
