Wow, you are so correct. NIMBY. It almost seems a parody -- the drillers saying that this would set a bad precedent in Texas. They should go out to California and look at all the pumpers in residential areas in south Los Angeles and in Long Beach.
... and fortunately none of the six are in North Dakota. I guess we got the sage grouse.
That spotted owl certainly keeps popping up everywhere. I think the spotted owl was a challenge for the lumber companies in the northwest, though probably not the Mexican spotted owl unless it was migrating that far north without a visa.
Williston made the Forbes list #6 of fastest growing small towns. I'm not sure where they got their data, but it says Williston is at 22,000+. My guess is it could be even a bit larger population than that, but it would seriously be hard to confirm without a special census...and even that would change monthly.
Very interesting and informative article. Once you get into this site, you just click on the city from the oil patch. Very interesting information. Especially the Williston link presented by Brad Bekkedahl.
