July 12, 2024: one of two things generally happen when a supermarket closes for regulatory reasons:
- the two things that generally happen:
- the supermarket is closed permanently; no one steps in to buy it;
- the supermarket is bought by a second- or third-tier supermarket chain -- a supermarket chain that cannot offer better prices because they don't have the supply chain advantage that would be needed to improve things
- in most cases it's a lose-lose for consumers when the government tries to micro-manage the economy
