Kamala Harris And The Presidency -- December 5, 2023

Locator: 46240HEADLINES.

Breaking: the 10-year-Treasury just dropped below 4.2% -- the lowest since September, 2023. The "inversion" has worsened. But folks "invested" in Treasuries, are truly "invested in Treasuries and that's not going to change for quite some time. Folks absolutely don't accept that the US economy is doing well, and that all indications are that the economy is getting better.

Senator Tuberville: blinks. He disrupted the lives of many service men and women; I wonder if his stubbornness changed anything.

Kamala Harris: sets all-time record for most tie-breaking votes in the US Senate. In other words, Kamala Harris is determining the outcome of a lot of new bills. She's running the US Senate. If she can run the US Senate, can she run the country? Worse, much worse, have been served as presidents of the US.

High-speed rail: LA to LV. $3 billion in funding raised.

From the Bat Cave today:

Unless there's some breaking, big news, I think I'm done for the day.

I learned a lot today.

The weather is incredible.

Time to get out and about.

Ranking presidents, we all have our own criteria. The best I can do, I suppose is to rank them in three groups: really great; average; not enough data on which to judge.

And the only way I can rank them is how they responded when the country was in great trouble: holding the nation together after the revolutionary war; the US Civil War, WWII, 9-11.

I would rank Lincoln much, much higher than Geo Washington; and even FDR higher than Geo Washington. Truman is probably over-rated. Thomas Jefferson probably is #2 but comparing Jefferson with Lincoln is comparing apples and oranges.

No one came out of the Vietnam era looking good.

Obama was very, very divisive, and never had any great challenges compared to the ones I've mentioned. Coming after two most divisive presidents (Obama and Trump, and the highly ineffectual Bushes), Biden actually looks pretty good. Hillary would have been incredibly divisive.

All the rest are a blur and Kamala Harris would be among that huge group. I suspect she would be very similar to a "Biden."

  2. I'm inclined to think the rankings from Kennedy onward aren't too far off (FDR may be a tad high). Likewise, (and I hope it never occurs) I'd be surprised if Kamala would ever ranked above the bottom 10. This is a great nation with great people who have great potential/achievements. We deserve better than what I'm seeing today. Lord help us~

    1. One might have to separate presidents into three groups: 1) non-war-time presidents; 2) foreign-war presidents (WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam; Gulf wars) and, 3) American wars only (Revolutionary War, US Civil War, War On Terrorism-North America).

  3. Three groups? Actually a great way/differentiator. Weighing the three: I'd put my money on Eisenhower. War time, peace time and blessed to have never had American wars (well, civil rights.... maybe). Still and all....

    1. A war-time president -- all but forgotten. The Korean War and we know how that turned out. 33,000 Americans killed.
