As I've said often on the blog, I don't buy into these lists, but they are always fun to read.
This one: the best places to live for singles -- seven cities that are fun, friendly, and affordable ... as we get back to normal -- posted over at Money just a few weeks ago, February 12, 2021:
At the link, there is an interactive map. Beware. It's an ad. Not part of the article. But it's very, very misleading.
The list of seven cities.
1. Missoula, MT
I think I will quit there. For the rest of the list, go to the link.
Oh, why not:
4. Portland, OR.
7. Santa Fe, NM.

- Montana continues to see shocking real estate numbers, even in historically slower months for the industry.
- In the first 45 days of 2021, in Missoula, the median housing prices went from $324,100 in 2020, to $419,535, a jump of more than $95,000.
- The Flathead saw a jump, too, though not as significant of an increase as Missoula. Comparing the window between January 1, 2021, and February 15, 2021 the median sales price went from $320,000 in 2020 to $390,000 in 2021. The amount of sales increased also, from 181 in that time period in 2020 to 231 in 2021.
Bottom line: folks are fleeing states that will be most affected by global warming. LOL.
Real Estate prices are major reason we moved to S Carolina. Mortgage alone cut in half.

DeleteI can tell you Missoula is not a single/low income family friendly city at all.
ReplyDeleteNew housing is being priced way above affordability of their demographic
My hunch: you are absolutely correct when looking at the west, midwest, and deep south. But to millennials writing for "Money Magazine" in NYC, San Francisco, and Boston, my hunch: Missoula looks pretty affordable.
