With the news that Elon Musk will acquire Twitter, it seems some weird things are going at twitter. It's probably just my imagination but some things seem very, very strange.
Twitter has a feature that posts "hash tags" or subjects that are trending, usually five make the list. Originally, all five were "legitimate," not product or "ad" placement. But now one of the five, usually the second one is an ad. And, obviously ads aren't trending. Twitter is looking for ways to monetize its site.
If they can manipulate ad-placement on the trending feature, I assume they manipulate all items that make the trending list.
That was very obvious to me when overnight the top-trending item was "experts say masks are safe and effective in helping prevent the spread of Covid-19."
This looks like something from 2020 or early 2021, but certainly not 2022 after even Fauci says the pandemic is over and no one -- almost literally no one -- is wearing masks any more and no one is even talking about masks any more.
This "trending" item was obviously "agenda-driven."
Later
Just after posting the above this appeared (and no hashtag -- so you know it's not trending): "Bill Gates: I'm Grieving The Same Way Melinda Is."
And, of course, he talks about using his fortune to combat the next pandemic.
Again, someone paid twitter to "place' this thread.
Somehow the thread reads to suggest he is trying to salvage his reputation. His wife is clearly out-shining him.
And that pregnant-male emoji? If one knows how well Steve Jobs and Bill Gates got along will know the inside joke on that one.
By the way, that feature is no longer called "Trending," but rather, "What's Happening." Big difference.
