The Obama Legacy: Knowing That You Lied Straight-Faced While I Cried, Still I Look To Find A Reason To Believe

Flashback: destroyed NASA -- told director that top priority for NASA -- make Muslims feel good, July 6 2010. What a doofus. Can you imagine worker bees at NASA putting these three mission states on their bulletin boards, including to make Muslims feel good?

Charles Bolden, a retired United States Marines Corps major-general and former astronaut, said in an interview with al-Jazeera that Nasa was not only a space exploration agency but also an "Earth improvement agency".
Mr Bolden said: "When I became the Nasa administrator, he [Mr Obama] charged me with three things.
"One, he wanted me to help reinspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."

July 18, 2017: in today's Los Angeles Times --
Speaking of Obama's legacy, let's start with the Democratic Party. LOL.
June 6, 2017: he blew it on --
  • oil
  • health care
  • the Mideast (Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan)
March 14, 2017: in response to an op-ed I was sent regarding Obama's attempt to sabotage Trump, my unedited reply:
This is very interesting. I think the article is accurate with regard to Obama's intentions, the wire-tapping, etc.

However, some other thoughts:

1. The DC government bureaucrats are lifers. They were in place a long time before Obama ever got there. Many have had the same job for 20 years which takes them back to Clinton? The upper level, political appointees are the challenge, but the new cabinet secretaries will start to weed them out.

2. Most bureaucrats/DC employees simply want their paychecks, do their jobs; few of them are political activists; they have families to raise, sports to watch, etc. It's the 20-somethings that are always involved politically and they don't stay 20 years old very, very long.

3. Once out of office, once out of the news, once out of the public eye, one's influence greatly wanes. One only remains influential if you a) have tons of money (like George Soros) and/or b) you spend a lot of time in front of the television (Oprah).  Obama will gradually fade. He might try to run the "Deep State" but very few will listen to him: he's depressing; he's obviously a failure; he does not have the billions that Steyer or Soros has; he isn't even on television like Oprah or Colbert or Rachel Maddow. Speaking of which, I think Rachel Maddow would have more influence than Obama.

4. Bill Clinton remained in the spotlight after his presidency for any number of reasons, not least of which he was a playboy and had a wife that stayed in politics. Obama is not known to be a playboy and his wife did not go into politics. Obama may run a huge organization but he doesn't have the authority any more to wire tap; he can't walk into any government office. Also remember: by his own admission Obama is lazy; I doubt he has the energy to be a community organizer after being the most powerful man in the world for eight years. He's worn out; he's tired; once he starts the good life -- golfing, smoking, womanizing, he will lose even more political energy. [Update, March 16, 2017: once he starts to enjoy the good life -- it looks like it has already started. He is now in Brando's retreat in French Polynesia hobnobbing with Hollywood starlets; he plans to be there for one month; Michelle did not go with him.]

5. I think folks that write too much about Obama running the entire anti-Trump insurgency start to sound like Hillary Clinton talking about the "right-wing conspiracy" as if there was one person in charge.

6. In marketing they say even bad news keeps your name in front of the customers, or something to that effect. All those negative articles on Trump probably speak to the alt-left base, but probably have little effect on Trump supporters. It will wax and wane, I'm sure, but it's interesting that Schumer and Pelosi have been a) very, very quiet this past week; and, b) seem to becoming more irrelevant every day. Pelosi, of course, IS irrelevant and a victim of "cerebral pelosi" but Schumer is at risk of beginning to look like Pelosi lite. [McCain is very, very similar; McCain comes off as "sour grapes"  -- having lost the presidency, which was bad enough, but then to see that someone like Trump could win, must really get his goat.]

7. So, we need the alt-right to write articles about Obama to make sure he doesn't succeed but my hunch is that he fades away. He can't run for any political office and if his wife doesn't run for anything, Obama will simply not be seen. And he has no money. Soros will spend his money the way he wants to spend it; I doubt Soros will send Obama money. And the Clintons really ruined the "foundation" method of slush funds.

Obama's Legacy Of Deceit

In its remaining days in power, the Obama administration suddenly punished Vladimir Putin’s Russia for allegedly interfering in the U.S. presidential election. It claimed that Russian or Russian-hired hackers tapped into the records of the Democratic National Committee as well as the correspondence of John Podesta, a Clinton advisor.
But what the Obama administration did not say was that such cyber-crimes are by now old hat. Both the Russian and Chinese governments have been hacking into far more important U.S. records and government archives for years without earning retaliation.
The administration also did not mention that the election hacking occurred largely because of Podesta’s own carelessness in using his security password. Moreover, it failed to acknowledge that the Republican National Committee was likewise targeted, but apparently had enough safeguards to prevent successful entry into its records. Finally, the administration refused to mention that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange went on the record saying that he did not receive the email trove from the Russians.
The truth is that Obama, throughout his presidency, has appeased Putin. As president, Obama ended the previously agreed-on Eastern European missile defense; he made open-mic promises to be more flexible with Putin after his reelection; he barely responded to Russia’s aggression toward Crimea and Ukraine; and he constantly criticized both George W. Bush and Mitt Romney for being inordinately tough on Russia.
Until now, he saw no reason to stop enabling Russia. Had Hillary Clinton won the election, Putin’s alleged hacking would not have earned any administration attention. But this time around, an emboldened Putin allegedly went too far and crossed the only red line that Obama might have enforced by supposedly enabling the release of information that might have turned off some voters on Clinton. Blaming Putin for Clinton’s loss was a more convenient narrative than admitting that Obama’s own policies have turned off even traditional Democratic constituencies and for now reduced the Democratic Party to a minority coastal party.
All administrations play fast and loose with the truth. It is the nature of high politics to fib, cover up, and fudge in order to ensure the success of a so-called noble agenda for the greater good. But not since the Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon administrations have we seen a president so institutionalize misrepresentation.
There are ample examples. It was clear from Clinton’s own leaked emails and from real-time memos from intelligence agencies that the September 11, 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi was not a spontaneous riot over an insensitive video produced by a reactionary Coptic zealot residing in the United States, as the administration claimed. But such a concoction fit Obama’s 2012 reelection narrative: the recklessness of right-wing Islamophobes endangers national security abroad. In contrast, the reality—a preplanned al-Qaeda-affiliated attack on an unprepared and semi-covert American consulate—challenged Obama’s reelection myth that Al Qaeda was “on the run” and that the administration was vigilant in ensuring security for our diplomatic personnel in the Middle East.
The U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. at the time, Susan Rice, went on five Sunday morning talk shows to insist, quite wrongly, that the deaths of four Americans in the attack were the tragic result of ad hoc furor over intolerance. The video-maker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula was abruptly jailed on probation violation charges, in a display of swift American justice never matched by a commensurately prompt arrest and prosecution of real terrorists.
Another example of Obama administration’s misrepresentation concerns U.S. army soldier Bowe Bergdahl, who went AWOL from his post in Afghanistan and ended up a captive of Taliban affiliates from June 2009 until his release in May 2014. The Obama administration conducted lengthy and stealthy negotiations to return the deserter to U.S. custody. As part of the bargain, it agreed to release five Taliban terrorists from the detention center in Guantanamo Bay. In an about-face, an Army command announced last year that Bergdahl will soon be facing charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. Yet to gain Bergdahl’s release, the Obama administration fabricated a completely different narrative to justify the embarrassing swap and concessions to the Taliban. Bergdahl, in National Security Advisor Susan Rice’s words, “served the United States with honor and distinction.”
Upon his release, Bergdahl parents were brought to the White House for photo-ops, where his father appeared with a long beard and shaved lip—not unlike the facial hair worn by his son’s Taliban captors. Bill Bergdahl thanked the concerned parties and broke into rudimentary Pashto and Urdu, praising Allah for his son’s release. The staged press conference was designed to underscore the administration’s view that the son of a multicultural family had naively and innocently wondered off from his compound. But now, young Bergdahl was safe with his family, due to the Obama administration. The disturbing truth was more likely that the administration traded prisoners for a U.S. deserter, while pushing the false narrative of returning an American patriot to his parents.
The far more important Iran nuclear deal of summer 2015 followed a similar pattern of dissimulation. “Bold” and “courageous” Middle East diplomacy nonetheless required White House subterfuge and deceitfulness. Ostensibly only Barack Obama was unaffected by past presidents’ prejudices against the revolutionary regime in Iran and thus could appreciate the mutual advantages of a breakthrough agreement to deter Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb—as part of a larger diplomatic effort to return Shiite and Persian Iran to its natural role as a balancing force in the otherwise largely Sunni and Arab Middle East.
In exchange for the U.S. and its allies dropping sanctions and commercial penalties—some of them approved by the UN—the theocracy purportedly agreed to reduce its installed centrifuges for 10 years. It promised to put limits on the purity of its enriched uranium and to reduce existing stockpiles. It agreed not to expand its enrichment facilities, while allowing on-site inspections.
But after 18 months, the true character of the deal has been revealed through slow leaks. In a secret side deal, Iran can update and improve its centrifuges; it can also inspect its own enrichment centers and report the results to international authorities; beyond that, Iran received a $400 million ransom payment on the exact day that Iranian-held U.S. hostages were let go.
More recently we learned that Iran got the sanctions lifted before it met all its obligations outlined in the deal. Ben Rhodes, an architect of the swap and deputy national security advisor, boasted about the administration’s affinity for deceit. Rhodes, described by a New York Times interviewer as “a storyteller who uses a writer’s tools to advance an agenda that is packaged as politics but is often quite personal,” explained the methods of concocting an Iran narrative to a guidable media: “All these newspapers used to have foreign bureaus,” Rhodes intoned. “Now they don’t. They call us to explain to them what’s happening in Moscow and Cairo. . . The average reporter we talk to is 27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. That’s a sea change. They literally know nothing.”
Rhodes’s cynicism was reminiscent of the boasts of another administration advisor, the MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, who bragged of the administration’s ability to get passed the Patient Protection and affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”), largely through deliberate deceit about the inevitable consequences of higher premiums and deductibles, the dropping of existing coverage and doctors, and increases in federal outlays. Some of the bill’s more obvious and unpopular elements—such as the employer mandate—were not enforced until after Obama’s 2012 reelection bid. Gruber admitted that the law was composed “in a tortured way” to delude people into accepting that “healthy people pay in and sick people get money”—a subterfuge that was both necessary and worked because of “the stupidity of the American voter,” a fact confirming that the “lack of transparency is a huge political advantage.”
Other examples of dissimulation exist—from Obama’s about-face on border enforcement, in which he redefined deportation and reneged on his promises to enforce existing law, to the linguistic gymnastics he employed to mask the disastrously abrupt pullout of peacekeepers from Iraq (ISIS as “the “jayvees”). Most recently, the administration has not been candid about the details of its latest estrangement with Israel.
Obama and his foreign policy team hid the fact that they had helped to engineer a UN resolution condemning Israel, by suggesting to the public that they were unaware of the depths of apparently spontaneous expressions of anti-Israeli anger.
Why does the Obama administration contort reality and mask the consequences of its initiatives?
Two reasons come to mind. One, Obama advanced an agenda to the left of that shared by most past presidents. Obamacare, the Benghazi catastrophe, the Iran deal, his strange stance toward radical Islam, and the Bergdahl swap were unpopular measures that required politically-driven recalibrations to escape American scrutiny.
Second, Obama’s team believes that the goals of fairness and egalitarianism more than justify the means of dissimulation by more sophisticated elites. Thus Gruber (“the stupidity of the American voter”) and Rhodes (“They literally know nothing”) employ deception on our behalf. Central to this worldview is that the American people are naive and easily manipulated, and thus need to be brought up to speed by a paternal administration that knows what is best for its vulnerable and clueless citizenry.
Such condescension is also why the administration never believes it has done anything wrong by hiding the facts of these controversies. Its players believe that because they did it all for us, the ensuing distasteful means will be forgotten once we finally progress enough to appreciate their enlightened ends.

The 2016 Election

November 9, 2016, 10:52 p.m. Central Time:

Trump, on his own, defeated three dynasties:
  • the Bush dynasty (already failing);
  • the Obama dynasty (which would become bigger if Trump lost); and,
  • the Clinton dynasty (perhaps the most powerful dynasty the world has ever known) and the Clinton triumvirate of Bill, Hillary, and Huma.
He did this despite the mainstream media; the Hollywood elite; and, Loretta Lynch.

November 9, 2016, 5:45 p.m. Central Time: this is quite amazing, to see this on CNN one day after the election.
For President Barack Obama, Donald Trump's presidential victory is nothing less than a nightmare.
His longstanding vision for progressive change faced sharp and unexpected repudiation Tuesday night from voters still fuming at their perceived diminished prospects.
By Obama's own admission, the major pieces of his presidential legacy are now subject to a gutting by a successor he resents deeply.
November 9, 2016, 12:46 p.m. Central Time: how long does it take "them" to call an election?
With 100% of precincts reporting, and Trump clearly with the most votes in Michigan, "they" still have not called the race for Trump. Results with 100% of precincts reporting: Trump -- 2,278,621 (485); and, Hillary, 2,265,935 (47%). My dad once told me that a win by 1% is a landslide in a close race. George Bush beat Al Gore by less than 1,500 votes in 2000. Trump has 12,686 more votes than Hillary in Michigan with 100% of all precincts reporting. It only takes one more than the other to win in a two-person race. One assumes a precinct does not report until absentee ballots and questionable ballots are counted/resolved.
November 9, 2016, 11:56 a.m. Central Time: Pet Peeves, now that it's over.
1. Absolutely wrong. This may be the thing that irritates me most: the mainstream media says this nation has never been so divided.
Let's go to Hillary's fact-checker:  Between Election Day and Lincoln's inauguration, seven slave-holding Southern states declared their secession from the Union and formed the Confederacy. This later precipitated the Civil War that lasted until 1865.

Let's repeat that in case someone missed it: after Abraham Lincoln was elected president, "seven slave-holding Southern states decleared their secession from the Union and formed the Confederacy." And they did that before Abraham Lincoln even took the oath of office.

The election of 1860 is not ancient history. Folks, in 2016, still talk about the need for reparations for events that preceded the Civil War.
 2.  Self-righteousness. This may be the closest US presidential race ever between two diametrically-opposed personalities. The final outcome may be a virtual tie at 49% - 48% of the popular vote. Those losing make it sound like the US belongs only to them; they talk as if the "deplorables" have put into office the Supreme Deplorable. The 48% do not seem to think the 49% "deserve" to have won. The 48% want to take their "toys" and go home. An endless stream of Hollywood / West Coast whiners and East Coast elite tweet empty threats to leave the US. We used to call these type of folks "sore losers." In soccer they (the 48%) would be red-carded. These sore losers simply backed the wrong horse from the very beginning; almost any credible candidate from the Democratic Party (other than Hillary) would have beaten Trump.

3. Eyes wide shut. The media continue to focus on memes and tropes to "paint" Trump in their image; they continue to ignore the memes and tropes we associate with Hillary.
November 9, 2016, 5:40 a.m. Central Time: the MSNBC guys look shell-shocked. Indiana's Evan Bayh loses; Wisconsin's Feingold loses to Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey wins in PA.
  • Finally, MSNBC: Barack Obama will go over as "the worst president ever for record-setting losses -- in 2010, and now in 2016. Barack Obama very good at getting himself elected but not getting his party elected." -- a direct quote.
  • Lots of talk about "tickets splitting." That didn't happen. One exception: Heck in Nevada was one exception -- he was one that broke from Trump. Wow, they look surprised, shell-shocked.
  • Trump did this alone. The GOP never helped him "get the vote out." The media was against him, even The Wall Street Journal
  • By the way, Trump's "victory speech" earlier this morning was one of the better victory speeches I have ever heard in all my years of following politics. No negative yelling; not one negative word from Trump; not one negative word about Hillary and when he praised her, his supporters applauded him.
  • Michigan: Trump leads by over 15,000 votes (remember, Bush was ahead in Florida by 1,500 votes before the lawsuits began) but "they" still won't call the state for Trump. Right now, with 99% of precincts voting: Trump - 2,255,356; Hillary - 2,239,745.
  • Even Tom Brokaw gets it wrong. He remembers all the "bad" things Trump said but refuses to to remember all the "bad" things Hillary did
  • African-American spokesman: how do I explain that a moral and ethically bankrupt candidate was elected president? Again, eyes wide shut.
  • They argue that Joseph Biden would have won. Possibly. If voters voted against the "personality," then I agree, Biden would have won. If voters were voting against Barack Obama, Biden would not have won.
  • The only two states which "bucked" the trend: Virginia and Nevada. Virginia: 60,000 felons awarded right to vote by a "robo-pen." The governor couldn't possibly sign that many individual "waivers." Latinos show up en-mass
  • Yes, Trump was a 3rd-party candidate who happened to get the nomination for the GOP party.
  • Finally: ObamaCare mentioned. Now MSNBC says that the ObamaCare story was "under-told" this past 12 hours in the post-mortem.
  • Nothing mentioned about Hillary's health, and crazy Kaine. And from what little I know, Pence is an incredible "under-study."
  • President Barack Obama has already invited President-elect Trump to meet tomorrow (Thursday).
  • That victory speech by the way: "off-the-cuff." No speech-writer. No tele-prompter.
  • Yes, yes, yes: pollsters are not correctly "modeling" the electorate. Pollsters are looking at an "old model. They don't realize the whole world has changed." The USC-Los Angeles Times got it right.
  • With regard to special prosecutors for Hillary; Loretta Lynch - Comey; Clinton Foundation; the IRS -- I would let Congress take the lead on that. If Congress fails to be bold, courageous, then Trump needs to step in.
  • Trump characterized himself as being lazy -- his own word, his own characterization of himself. Trump does not appear to me to be "lazy."
  • Kellyanne Conway is incredible. Up all night and now she looks great despite all that was going on. Not once have I heard the word "I" from either Conway or Trump -- it's always about the team.
  • No replay of the Bush-Gore Florida fiasco.
  • How many times did we hear that "Trump's ceiling was 41%"?
  • All of a sudden, these MSNBC field analysts are now telling us they are not surprised that Trump won. LOL. The narrative is beginning to change.
  • "How did polls go from 41% for Trump and then Trump wins with 49%?" They forgot what they said earlier: the pollsters had their "modeling" wrong.
  • One of the better analysts blames Comey. I don't know. I don't think so.
  • I'm still amazed that Michigan has still not been called. There must be a lot of paper absentee ballots that need to be counted. I think someone needs to "investigate" why it takes so long for a state like Michigan to get all its votes counted.
  • I've never enjoyed watching MSNBC so much. I haven't watched any network news program in years -- until now. And MSNBC satisfies, this morning.
  • Type in "Kel" over at Google, and it automatically fills in the rest -- "Kelleyanne Conway." Amazing. People who think Trump is a misogynist may want to learn a bit about Kelleyanne Conway and then think again.
  • They keep talking about a "divided nation." That would have been true under Hillary. Trump haters need to ask themselves. Who would have been most vindictive had he/she won? I think the answer is pretty obvious.
  • Donny Deutsch: I don't know anything about him but he sounds like another idiot. The biggest fear: we have an "unknown." Wow, remember Barack Obama? A junior senator, in office for two years, and we still don't know Obama's true history and yet they call Trump an "unknown." Trump is 70 years old; he has been in the public eye for decades; mainstream media did everything they could "expose" the real Trump -- anyone who says Trump is an "unknown" has been living under a rock for the past forty years.
  • They talk as if there has never been a non-politician who became president. Eisenhower? George Washington?
  • I may be able to go back to watching news show.
  • I'm curious what people think Hillary's victory speech would have been like?
  • No one has mentioned Trump did this all on his own:
    • the GOP deserted him
    • he paid for this own campaign
    • mainstream media was 1000% against him
    • the elite Hollywood crowd -- especially late-night television dissed Trump every chance they could
  • This "divided nation" stuff keeps coming up. No one asks the question who was president for the past eight years that widened the gap in this "divided nation"? It is amazing how Obama is a "non-entity" in the post-mortem.
  • One notes the Trump talking heads are wearing a US flag on their lapels; no US flags seen on MSNBC anchors, regulars.
  • Michigan: Trump - 2,255,356; Hillary - 2,239,745. -- that is the very same number now 97:16 a.m. Central Time as it was when I started this morning's post. Have they quit counting ballots in Michigan? Something very fishy going on in Michigan.
  • James Carville (from last night before the race was called): one-party rule. ObamaCare is done. Dodd-Frank is done. The market is down 700 points and it's going to fall further. He's worried about one-party rule? LOL. He would have loved had the Democrats won
  • Al Sharpton, Reverend. LOL. I haven't seen him in ages. He's still showing up on MSNBC? When does Corzine show up?
  • Computers on MSNBC: Apple laptops -- MacBook Pros or MacBook Airs.
  • Historian: compares him to Andrew Jackson. MSNBC anchor blows him off. Something tells me the MSNBC anchor has never read the "Andrew Jackson story." Or saw the movie.
  • These polls showing 68% of African-Americans as "frightened" are being taken by the same pollsters that predicted a Hillary landslide. The media is doing a lot to perpetuate this fear.
  • GOP pollster: "voters hated Hillary Clinton."
  • Michael Beschloss (NBC historian) needs a haircut.
  • Scarborough now "blaming" the media: "they (the media) all had a conclusion looking for the story to support that conclusion." "We know when we were getting spun."
  • Where's Chelsea? Finally, the end of the Bushes, the Clintons.
  • The MSNBC crew: "The system is rigged." What? LOL.
  • Rand Paul: Kentucky -- 16 new Republicans in state legislature; Kentucky goes completely Republican -- first time in 100 years. Prediction: in first week of Congress - many Obama regulations will be repealed by Congress and Trump will sign them. Many think many of the Obama regulations are illegal, anyway. [If the Senate blocks those efforts to repeal, Trump will use executive orders.] "Use of force" (war) is a prerogative of Congress, not the president.
  • Clinton's speech has slipped an hour. My hunch is she is tired, exhausted; needed another hour of sleep.
  • Mexican president has tweeted his congratulations to Donald Trump. Mika makes a joke about that; she, too, doesn't understand men and women who work in the real world.
  • Next big question: who's the next attorney general and how aggressive will he be regarding Loretta Lynch, IRS, Clinton Foundation?
  • Top ten list of what comes next includes Hillary's health status over next four years. If she becomes incapacitated before November 1, 2020, crazy Kaine takes over. No one in mainstream media will admit that Kaine is crazier than Gary Johnson, the libertarian candidate.
  • Republican establishment got smashed into a million pieces. Just as the Democratic party.
  • "Republicans in full control of government." Hardly. Many of the GOP representatives disassociated themselves from Trump, including the Leader of the House, Paul Ryan. In addition, many Republicans in the House (and especially the Senate) are RINOs. Democrats are not DINOs but they are dinosaurs for the most part.
  • Finally, at 8:07 a.m. the Michigan numbers have changed: Trump - 2,258,166; Hillary: 2,241,930.
  • In retrospect, one can argue that Bill Clinton campaigned very, very poorly for his wife. One wonders if he really wanted to be upstaged by his wife. Will they maintain the facade that they are still a married couple?
  • MSNBC: the most telling thing how badly Clinton took this -- Hillary did not speak during the night, after the election had been called. I don't agree. Kerry waited until the next morning to even conceded. She conceded a very tight election relatively early.
November 9, 2016, 1:49 a.m. Central Time: ABC and CBS still not reporting that Clinton conceded in phone call to Trump. Amazing.
AP called it first; then Fox News. Then NBC. Wow, CBS and ABC are not televising Trump's victory speech. This is quite incredible. Are the other two networks on a huge tape delay? This is really, really bizarre. Yes, CBS must be on a huge tape delay: they say they are waiting for Trump to show up at his headquarters, but Trump has already been speaking for quite some time. I think Trump just introduced his cabinet in his General Mike Flynn and General Kellogg. Ben Carson. Rudy Giuliani. Jeff Sessions. At 2:03 a.m. CBS shows Trump arriving at headquarters. CBS and ABC have still not called it. Trump speech (on NBC) ends at 2:06 a.m. Still not on ABC or CBS streaming.
November 9, 2016: the Obama legacy? One word: Trump.

November 8, 2016: 11:55 p.m. -- none of the four major networks has called the election yet My thoughts:
  • absolutely amazing no one has called this race yet; it's very obvious Trump will win; media holding out for a miracle; were the results just the opposite (and even narrower), the media would have already called it for Hillary [later: the longer this goes on that no one calls this race, the more the Trump folks need to be worried; strong forces in Washington, DC, are busy looking at their options -- ]
  • [later: amazing -- the spread in PA, MI, WI continues to widen and MSNBC still says those two states are too close to call] [at 12:53 a.m. Central Time, "internet" finally calls Pennsylvania for Trump -- networks have not -- with Pennsylvania in Tump's column, that cinches it]
  • streaming: ABC incredibly awful; MSNBC pretty good; CBS pretty good; but all Hillary friends; I didn't look for Fox streaming
  • when we look back, it's very possible that biggest silver bullet we missed was a President Kaine -- I'm still not convinced medically Hillary could have carried on
  • the mainstream media really went into this with their eyes wide shut
  • huge backlash
  • Trump did 8 points (net) better than Romney among Latinos in Florida
  • it is probably good that we don't have four terms of an Obama administration; Hillary would have been an extension of his administration
  • this changes everything:
    • the Comey comedy is over; even Loretta Lynch needs to be worried; could Trump appoint a special prosecutor to look into "conspiracy to obstruct justice"?
    • that Arizona sheriff now has friends in high places
    • the House/Senate may take another look at the IRS; could Trump appoint a special prosecutor to look into the IRS?
    • the Standing Rock Reservation folks are looking forward to a very, very cold winter
  • just after midnight, I'm watching streaming ABC, CBS, NBC for the first time -- I am amazed; it's all Hillary mouthpieces; absolutely amazed
  • if Trump wins, this is the real Obama legacy
  • "the enthusiasm gap" was missed by mainstream media (or at least tried to downplay it)
  •  it will be interesting what President Obama does in his last 70 days
  • it is interesting that in the two hours I have been listening to the post-mortem on this election, not one person on CBS, NBC, ABC has mentioned President Obama -- obviously Obama was the other big loser in the race
  • amazing how folks are calling the last few states close; yes, the different is only one percent, but 75,000 votes is not "razor thin" as they say; remember, Bush won the initial vote in Florida by 1,500 votes;
  • final Princeton poll before the election
November 7, 2016: President Clinton speech in 2015 was paid a lot of money to tell us what we already know --
The economic stagnancy of the Obama years is to blame for plummeting life expectancy rates among white, working-class Americans, according to former president Bill Clinton, who privately told Democratic donors that lower-income whites “don’t have anything to look forward to when they get up in the morning.”
Clinton made the remarks while speaking to at a November 2015 closed-door fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in Canton, Ohio.
Echoing a theme of Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign, the former president expressed his concern that white, working-class Americans have been left behind over the last eight years.
November 7, 2016: countdown button for President Obama /  President Clinton -- thoughts --
A reader -- an ardent Obama supporter and one who said he "loved" ObamaCare -- asked if I would be including a “countdown button” for Hillary Clinton when she takes the presidential oath of office, just as I have for President Obama.

No, I won’t (be including a countdown button for Hillary).

I don’t recall when I first put up the Obama countdown button but it hasn’t been all that long in the big scheme of things. It has certainly not been more than two years, but I could be wrong.

I only put the countdown button up when I realized that President Obama would truly go down as the worst US president in modern history. That’s not my opinion. That’s the opinion of Investor's Business Daily.

My opinion is that he will go down as the worst US president in modern history and then some.

It’s difficult to come up with a 30-second soundbite that would encapsulate his presidency, but I think it comes down to this: the poor and disenfranchised, not just in the US, but around the world, are much worse off in 2016 than they were in 2010.

The world: his misjudgment left a vacuum, allowing the rise of a nuclear Iran and a nuclear arms race in the Mideast; the encouragement of a more-capable nuclear North Korea; the birth of ISIS; the survival of Assad; and, the expansion of the Russian footprint, not only in the Crimean and Ukraine, but now in the Mideast with Russia's first-ever Mediterranean seaport.

The US: on every level, African-Americans have become worse off under President Obama than any other president since James Buchanan, Jr. President Buchanan allied with the South in attempting to gain the admission of Kansas to the Union as a slave state. Buchanan was followed by Abraham Lincoln and we all know how that turned out. Ever since the Civil War, progress has been incredibly slow for African-Americans, and if progress came, it came in fits and starts. Under Obama, correct me I’m wrong, on almost any metric/issue one would measure/assess, US African-Americans are worse off today than they were on July 4, 2010.

Just as his misjudgment on the world stage left the vacuum that was filled by ISIS and Putin, his misjudgment on national affairs was similarly one of “fathomless ignorance.” That is not my phrase but one that gets 5,320 results in less than a second over on google. Change it to "'fathomless ignorance' Obama"and one gets 550 hits in less than a second. (By the way, my blog is on the front page of that google search, in the #10 spot -- wow.)

And that is what makes him the worse president in modern history.

Before I add a countdown button for Ms Clinton I will have to see what her first two years are like. My hunch is I won’t need to add a countdown button.

Nor would I want to. It’s a hassle putting these things up.
November 5, 2016: Obama leaves a terrible legacy. From Investor's Business Daily.
  • the economy
    • recession was ending before he was sworn in, and before his "stimulus" kicked in
    • even liberal economists admit that the Fed's actions, along with the TARP program enacted under Bush, prevented a further meltdown
    • the Obama recovery: fails miserably
    • GDP growth never reached 3% -- the worse recovery since the Depression
    • had his recovery been merely average, GDP would be $2 trillion bigger and there'd be millions more with jobs
  • the middle class
    • middle wages stagnated throughout Obama's term in office
    • real median income today is exactly where it was when Obama took office
    • private sector jobs have not kept pace with population growth
    • more than 14 million people have dropped out of the labor ford since Obama took office
    • without the huge decline in labor force participation under Obama, the unemployment rate would be closer to 10% than the "official" 4.9%
  • health care
    • health care insurance premiums are up an average 22% nationwide, and at rates of 50%, 60%, even 113% in some states -- increases unheard of before ObamaCare

October 16, 2016: Obama's legacy in the Mideast.

August 9, 2016: The longest stretch of productivity declines since the end of the 1970s is threatening to restrain U.S. worker pay and broader economic growth in the years ahead. It was the third consecutive quarter of falling productivity, the longest streak since 1979. Productivity in the second quarter was down 0.4% from a year earlier, the first annual decline in three years and just the sixth year-over-year drop recorded since 1982.

April 28, 2016: President Obama is the first American president in history who did not have one single year of 3.0% economic growth.

*****************************

From CNBC, September 29, 2015, Putin: Do You Realize What You Have Done?
Russian President Vladimir Putin told the U.N. on Monday that those who supported democratic revolutions in the Middle East are to blame for the rise of a globally ambitious Islamic State.
"Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster — and nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life," Putin said through a translator. "I cannot help asking those who have forced that situation: Do you realize what you have done?"
The Russian president added that the power vacuum following these revolutions led to the rise of terrorist groups in the region — including the Islamic State group.

He told the United Nations General Assembly it would be an "enormous mistake" not to cooperate with the Syrian government to combat the extremist group.
"No one but President (Bashar) Assad's armed forces and Kurdish militia are truly fighting the Islamic State and other terrorist organizations in Syria," he said.
As historians begin to assess Barack Obama’s record as president, there’s at least one legacy he’ll leave that will indeed be historic—but not in the way he would have hoped. Even as Democrats look favorably ahead to the presidential landscape of 2016, the strength in the Electoral College belies huge losses across much of the country. In fact, no president in modern times has presided over so disastrous a stretch for his party, at almost every level of politics.
Legacies are often tough to measure. If you want to see just how tricky they can be, consider the campaign to get Andrew Jackson off the $20 bill 178 years after he left the White House. Working class hero? How about slave owner and champion of Native American genocide? Or watch how JFK went from beloved martyr to the man whose imperial overreach entrapped us in Vietnam, and then back to the president whose prudence kept the Cuban Missile Crisis from turning into World War III.
Yet when you move from policy to politics, the task is a lot simpler—just measure the clout of the president’s party when he took office and when he left it. By that measure, Obama’s six years have been terrible.
The party’s record over the past six years has made clear that when Barack Obama leaves office in January 2017 the Democratic Party will have ceded vast sections of the country to Republicans, and will be left with a weak bench of high-level elected officials. It is, in fact, so bleak a record that even if the Democrats hold the White House and retake the Senate in 2016, the party’s wounds will remain deep and enduring, threatening the enactment of anything like a “progressive” agenda across much of the nation and eliminating nearly a decade’s worth of rising stars who might help strengthen the party in elections ahead.
When Obama came into the White House, it seemed like the Democrats had turned a corner generationally; at just 47, he was one of the youngest men to be elected as president. But the party has struggled to build a new generation of leaders around him. Eight years later, when he leaves office in 2017 at 55, he’ll actually be one of the party’s only leaders not eligible for Social Security. Even as the party has recently captured more young voters at the ballot box in presidential elections, its leaders are increasingly of an entirely different generation; most of the party’s leaders will fade from the national scene in the years ahead. Its two leading presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are 67 and 73. The sitting vice president, Joe Biden, is 72. The Democratic House leader, Nancy Pelosi, is 75; House Whip Steny Hoyer is 76 and caucus Chair James Clyburn is 75, as is Harry Reid, the Senate Democratic leader, who will retire next year. It’s a party that will be turning to a new generation of leaders in the coming years—and yet, there are precious few looking around the nation’s state houses, U.S. House or Senate seats.
Wow, I knew some were old, but I did not know that that many were that old.

The Unwisdom Of President Obama

Only In America
Canadian's Version of David Letterman's Top 10
  • Number 10: Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 per plate Obama campaign fund-raising event.
  • Number 9: Only in America ...could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black 40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans - 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanics!
  • Number 8: Only in America...could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
  • Number 7: Only in America...can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
  • Number 6: Only in America...would they make people who wantto legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens (probably should be number one).
  • Number 5: Only in America....could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as EXTREMIST’S.
  • Number 4: Only in America...could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
  • Number 3: Only in America...could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company(Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
  • Number 2: Only in America collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.
  • Number 1: Only in America...could the rich people- who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

November 22, 2015: after calling ISIS a JV team in January, 2014, the president says ISIS is still not varsity. In the past few days, the following, described by President Obama as a "setback", has occured: a) seven (7) simultaneous/coordinated attacks in Paris; 127 killed in one day; martial law extended; b) Russian plane downed out of Egypt; c) two coordinated bombings in Beirut which had been quiet for quiet some time; d) hostage taking and executions in Mali; and, 3) and now Brussels is completely shut down due to credible threats that ISIS will hit Brussels, where NATO is headquartered. I wonder what ISIS has to do to be considered "varsity"?

What Obama Will Do After He Leaves The Presidency

September 30, 2015: Hillary Clinton proposes an Infrastructure Bank for the US. These were my thoughts when a reader sent me the story:
1. Right, wrong, or indifferent, the Clintons never quit thinking of new ideas. I think this separates the Clintons from every other presidential contender and past president: Nixon, Ford, and Reagan went into deep seclusion (disgraced/irrelevant/Alzheimers); both Bushes went into seclusion for a different reason (they said it was the "right" thing to do); Carter built houses for the poor. Clinton made a lot of money for himself but he certainly had an agenda to change the world to his way of thinking. Hillary, whether she becomes president or not, has done the same thing. She has learned how to make a lot of money for herself, but at the same time works an agenda.

2. The Infrastructure Bank sounds a lot like the Export-Import Bank of the United States, which some in Congress do not support.

3. Of course, the Infrastructure Bank a) would be a slush fund for Congress; b) would be a way for Congress to fund union jobs -- highways, bridges, etc; and, c) would be a huge paying job for Chelsea or whoever would be selected to run it.

4. She views the Infrastructure Bank as a public/private endeavor and that it would provide a return on invested money. Perhaps she could "jump start" this proposal by co-opting Trump's proposal to bring back all that cash US corporations hold overseas -- bring it back and charge no interest on it if at least half of that brought back is channeled into the Hillary Clinton Infrastructure Bank.

5. Have you noticed how the e-mail discussion is no longer on the front page? The Clintons have a knack for moving the conversation along.

6. Oh, I forgot. Obama will adopt the Bill Clinton model for his post-presidency. He is a gr eat speaker and has the entire continent of Africa to exploit, as well as the Muslim Far East. I think Michelle will end up in relative seclusion (like most former first wives, gain a lot of weight, and begrudgingly devote her life to her daughters). Maybe Michelle will built an art museum that she would be comfortable visiting.

Making The Social Media Rounds -- June 19, 2016

Harold was a bright child. He grew up in America. He went to school and had a bright future ahead of him. Harold was full of life but was cut short in a violent moment. While few people had ever heard of Harold before his death, many did afterward. And in his death, something very shocking happened. What was so shocking, especially when it is compared to the death of someone else recently in the news?

Harold was Harold Greene, Major General, United States Army. On August 5, 2014, Major General Greene was killed by a Taliban terrorist. He was returned to America with full military honors.

It has been a tradition that the president attends the funeral of generals and flag officers killed in the line of duty.

Richard Nixon attended the funeral of a major general killed in Vietnam.

George W. Bush attended the funeral of Lieutenant General Timothy Maude, who was killed in the 9/11 attacks.

While Major General Harold Greene was buried, our current president, Barack Obama, was merely golfing. The vice president wasn't at the funeral either. Neither was the secretary of defense. Flags were not even lowered half-mast four days after Harold Greene gave his life for America.

Now .... enters this situation: Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown was at best a thug. In the minutes before his death, he committed a robbery at a local convenience store. According to other reports, Michael Brown struck Officer Darren Wilson and shattered his orbital bone.

And for this funeral, our president Obama, sent a three-person delegation to Brown's funeral! Obama would not attend the funeral nor honor the precedent set for presidents to do so ........ of the highest ranking military officer killed in the line of duty since 9/11, ..... yet he sent a delegation to the funeral of a thug.

Further, when Margaret Thatcher died, who had been one of America's staunchest allies and Ronald Reagan's partner in bringing down Soviet communism, Obama sent only a small low-level delegation to her funeral. And, of course, ....the snub was not missed by the British.

When Chris Kyle, the most lethal American sniper in history was murdered, there was no expression of sympathy from the White House. But when Whitney Houston died from drug overdose, Obama ordered all flags be flown at half-mast.

Back to Major General Harold Greene, ..... there was no White House delegation at the funeral of an American hero. When American heroes get buried, Obama leisurely goes to the golf course. A thug dies and he gets a White House delegation.

No wonder most "REAL" Americans hold Obama in such contempt, especially members of our military. Do note, that philosophy-wise, the only difference between Obama and Hillary is that she doesn't yet play golf.

[My hunch: Major General Harold Greene's family was probably relieved/happy that the Obamas did not show up. I know I would not have wanted him at any of my ceremonies.]

Definition Of Globalization

Globalization? A definition of globalization that I can understand and to which I now can relate:

Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer: Princess Diana's death.

Question: How come?

Answer:
  • an English Princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel
  • riding in a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling),
  • followed closely by Italian paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles,
  • treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines.
  • The original note was sent to you by a Canadian, using American Bill Gates' technology,
  • and you're probably reading this on your computer, that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor,
  • assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian truck drivers,
  • hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen,
  • and trucked to you by Mexicans who are in the US illegally because the current president, educated as a muslim in Indonesia, refuses to enforce US law. That, my friends, is globalization!
