Freeze warning in north central North Dakota. Obviously this link will break once the alert timeline expires.
I remember growing up in North Dakota. The first freeze was always around Halloween, it seemed. Either it was going to be a very, very cold night "trick or treating," or a "not very cold night" trick or treating.
By the way, on a cute little YouTube video, a North Dakota student lists the four seasons in North Dakota: winter, still winter, not winter, almost winter.
Here in Minnesota we have two seasons, Winter and "road construction season".
ReplyDeleteA lot of time "frost" and "freeze" are used interchangeably. If we just get a "frost" the thing that will kill uncovered tomato plants that usually occurs just before sunrise. North Dakota tends to get it's first frost in mid to late September so this is not unusual. http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/habitat/climate/temp.htm
As a child I recall Halloween "trick or threat" with "frost on the pumpkin" a quarter of the time. Rain was a lot worse on Halloween.
Winter and "road construction." Excellent.
