Ode To A Pipeline -- April 10, 2021

Normally this would be posted on "Schwa Nation" but it was too good to be "lost" over there.

This was sent to me by a reader who follows the Bakken pretty closely, having grown up in the area.

This pertains to the current status of the DAPL:

Angels on pinheads

Judges on pipelines

What is the protest?

Who has the timeline?

Sioux may object

Black snake they may say

Other tribes want

Their oil shipped away

We all heat with gas

And drive cars galore

I'm really too tired

To write anymore

King Solomon ruled

"Split the baby in two"

So maybe exactly

That's what we should do

You don't want a pipeline?

Fine, well, and then

Don't drive and  don't cook

Use solar and Zen

No airplanes

No fridges

No hot water baths

You'll walk slow and starve fast

Develop a rash

But water is life

So pump it by hand

'Cuz engines use power

All over the land.

Engines and Injuns

a pun unintended

It's way past the time

That this pipeline ode ended.
Throw in a few fanciful words and it would sound just like Dr Seuss. Of course, then it would be banned.

"Who has the timeline?"  Where is Dan Rather when we need him?

Texas High School Girls Varsity Soccer

Our middle granddaughter is a freshman who made the varsity girls soccer team at Grapevine High School, TX. Grapevine has a long history of very, very good girls soccer teams. For a freshman to make the team is quite remarkable, but that's another story, I suppose, for another time.

The Grapevine High School girls soccer team took the District Championship and then moved on to regionals.

Last night "Regionals" were played; there were two games.

The number one team, Highland Park, Dallas, was one of the four teams competing in "Regionals" and, of course were favored to win. They seem to win every year, and again, they would be the team to beat. Sort of like Gonzaga in NCAA men's basketball. My fear was that Grapevine would come in second at state, losing to Highland Park.

So, last night, I'm checking the results of the two games. No one in the family noted this!

Highland Park, Dallas, #1 in Texas, favored to take "State" was defeated in overtime! Whoo-hoo!

Highland Park, Dallas, is NOT going to "State."

But our Grapevine High School team is going to State

Grapevine High School defeated Amarillo, by a lopsided 3 - 1 score.

On top of that, our own granddaughter made the third goal.

Because there are so few goals in soccer, literally every goal counts. At 2 - 1, the team and the coach know that a lucky goal by the other team ties it up and easily goes to overtime where anything can happen (as it did to #1 Highland Park, Dallas, who will not be going to STATE this year).

So, at 2 - 1 it's still a close game; anything can happen. The coach is nervous; the parents are going nuts.

And then, Olivia -- our granddaughter -- scores!

2 - 1: it's still either team's game.

But 3 - 1? It's all over.

Grapevine is two games away from a state title.

There are four teams going to "State":
  • Grapevine is now ranked #31 nationally.
  • Frisco Wakeland is ranked #33 nationally.
  • Midlothian is ranked #197 nationally.
  • Celina is ranked #124 nationally.
The brackets suggests Grapevine will play Frisco Wakeland, and the winner of that game will play either Midlothian or Celina for the state championship.

The games are next week.

  1. Bruce, Congratulations to your Granddaughter and the teams success. What an exciting time for the whole family. As a Grampa with HS and travel team Granddaughters I'm always happy to read these type of stories... Playing for an injured Senior is "epic" ...AND scoring !!

    1. That's pretty funny .... when talking about her sister, the soccer player, the younger sister, age six, says Olivia is "epic." LOL. Thank you for your kind words.
