July 17, 2014: A reader who works in the Minot area wrote to say that workers for an oil services company (as in seismic), two years ago, working out of Minot, said they were working in the Towner County area, suggesting someone thinks the Spearfish may extend that far east.

This may become a top story or at least a time-date stamp. If you look at the state mineral leases someone is bidding on some North east North Dakota land in the county of Towner. I have not made the time to research it further yet but it is interesting because of the area. The link is here: http://www.land.nd.gov/minerals/oilandgasleasing.aspx. At the link, click on the "PDF."

if you lease to Far west you could enter the Turtle Mountain Reservation. I believe 3-4 yrs ago they Banned Fraccing on their Reservation. don
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting if they vote again if it turns out there might be oil or natural gas there.
DeleteOn the Turtle Mountain Reservation it would be political suicide to vote in favor of fracking. Go onto the reservation and talk to people and you will find out that the tribal citizens are more concerned about safe drinking water than to have one or two families get rich.
DeleteI don't think they have anything to worry about.
DeleteA big nothing. Have not found a single reason for someone to do this. No active wells for miles and all nearby wells are dry with limited to no shows. May be someone securing acreage because they know they can get it for a dollar. Maybe I am wrong but I will check on it every once in a while.
