The Sports Page -- It's A Wrap -- See You Tomorrow -- Good Luck To All -- October 4, 2020

Autos: I don't really care one way or the other, but with Tesla surging (?) and California banning gasoline automobiles, the US auto manufacturers are looking more and more like niche players on the global stage. And then we get this:

This will be seen as a "political post." It is not. It is the stories on so many other levels that aren't being reported by the mainstream media that makes this interesting ... for the archives, of course.

Comments:

  • folks are "begging" for sports to return to television; there are any number of commercials "capitalizing" on that phenomenon;
  • there is so little sports on television, that any sports event should be setting records;
  • people are trapped at home, locked down, with nothing to do, and yet they aren't watching the basketball?
  • two huge markets: Los Angeles and Miami -- I think only New York is a bigger market and yet ratings plunge?
  • college football: "no-name" schools make up the largest number of games being played right now; should be no competition for basketball;
  • but down 68%??? You know, if it was down 1% or 5% or 10%, that would be bad enough, but down almost 70%? Exactly who IS watching? Most likely the Chinese.
  • I mentioned earlier that without anyone in the stands, these games are looking like high school "pick up" games;

I wonder if sports talk shows will mention this? LOL. Of course they won't.

Preakness

I missed it yesterday. Forgot all about it. Watched it on YouTube today. Incredible. Great race. Photo finish. Favored horse came in second.

Even the announcer calling the race was not sure who won until official results posted.

NASCAR

I did catch the entire NASCAR race today. Another photo finish. The fans booed the winner, something I've never seen (heard?) before. There will be a lot of talk about this race tomorrow in social media where NASCAR is followed. From my vantage point, the race was clearly stolen by one of the "darlings" of NASCAR.

How 'Bout Them Cowboys

Had it not been for pure luck two games ago, the Dallas Cowboys would be 0 - 4. As it is, 1 - 3.

Two highest-paid athletes that held out for "more" and their team is 1 - 3. Can't wait to hear sports talk television tomorrow. When the score is 41 - 14 in the second quarter (that's when I first tuned in -- and then tuned out) not much matters after that. I hear tonight that Dak's numbers were incredible today -- passing yards; TDs; etc. I think purists understand what's going on here.
