Hartford, CT, on the brink -- WSJ. Apparently the city has run out of other people's money to spend.

    Unions own the state and demand redistribution of wealth, so the taxes are raised on the rich, so the rich move out of state, and the middle class is left paying for the extensive number of poor as well as "sinecure" (new word to me!) positions in state and municipal government. Services used every day get chopped while no administrators get laid off. Sweet job if you can get one....

    1. "Sinecure" positions. I would have had to look it up again, but it was a common word during the golden days of the British empire and during the early, golden days of the new US government -- early 1800s. Several writers hoped to get "sinecure" federal or state government positions so they would have time to write their books. If I recall correctly Nathaniel Hawthorne comes to mind.
