Interim Update Of An Old WPX Well In Squaw Creek -- A 10-Fold Jump In Production -- January 2, 2021
Note the ten-fold jump in production. Again, another example of the Bakken potential and all the work yet to be done. Note this well was drilled in 2012 and by 5/20, it's production had dropped to 800 bbls/month. Then, a 10-fold jump in production, to 7,400 bbls over 25 days in 10/20. Under Hubbert's peak theory this is not supposed to happen.
The well:
- 21217, 686, WPX, Linseth 13-12HW, Squaw Creek, t9/12; cum 150K 11/20;
History:
- October 29, 2020: #21217, four wells will be fracked on either side of this well; a WPX, inside the reservations;

The Movie Page
Lawrence of Arabia, on TCM. Wow, what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Perhaps the best movie, of this genre, ever -- although Patton certainly competes well. There are so many incredible "scenes." Most amazing to watch: when Sir Lawrence changes from a moral man to an amoral man to a crazed man about halfway through the movie, I suppose. Amorality, of course, is relative in this movie.

Chinese Flu Watch -- January 2, 2021
All things being equal, there will be a short-term spike in the number of new cases reported and new deaths related to Covid-19 for the next few days.
Reporting agencies tend to report the data the day they received the data, not the day the event actually occurred.
Johns Hopkins, until today (January 2, 2021), had not reported since December 30, 2020.

EVs: An Op-Ed -- January 2, 2021
EVs, an op-ed; link here; for the archives;
- a great article; nothing new,
- this article will eventually be moved to a stand-alone post for the archives. It's that good.
Road tax: it would be smart for states and the federal government to tackle this issue sooner than later. Once a tipping point is reached, perhaps as early as 10% penetration, folks will not support extra fees or taxes on EVs for road construction / maintenance. The federal government won't act until it's too late; states would be smart to act now. Three revenue streams:
- initial road tax at time a new EV is bought;
- annual road tax at time automobiles are registered;
- road tax fee levied on EV manufacturer at public charging stations
Distribution transformers:
Challenges for charging stations:
- at least 40% of Americans don't own their own homes
- apartment complexes
- cars that do not have overnight garage parking / park on public streets overnight
Footprint:
- charging station lots off interstate highways, federal highways, state highways and other major thoroughfares
- cars are parked for 30 minutes or so to re-charge vs five minutes or so for ICEs to re-fuel
