I've been watching this well for quite some time -- watching from a distance, but nothing to announce yet.
This is file # 17719, section 9-161-86, in the Tolley oil field (a very small field) on the eastern edge of the Williston Basin, but not as far east, and not as far north as the Spearfish / EOG wells in Bottineau County.
Tolley 8-9H is not on the NDIC confidential well list (if it was there at one time, it was removed on/about March 17, 2010, when some information was released): my database shows that on March 17, 2010, the well had reached a depth of 8,000 feet and was targeting the Madison. The NDIC does not report its total depth yet. At "well search" on the NDIC site, it shows the status of the well as DRL (drilling).
So we wait.

106 rigs!
Yup. 106 active rigs today.
The number of active rigs will vary up and down two to three rigs each day, but the trend will continue to go up.
