Elon Musk Never Ceases To Amaze Me — March 11, 2023

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to surmise who has/had the most money tied up in the Silicon Valley Bank. I mentioned that on the blog earlier today.

We’ll connect the dots tomorrow but for now, I’m headed to bed.

How does one get your money tied up in a failed bank? You buy the bank.

You buy the bank, merge it with one of your other businesses, let’s say, a social media company (Twitter?) and voila! World’s largest fintech company created in less than 72 hours with the world’s second richest man as CEO.

I’m going to bed. Laughing. What a crazy world.

The Oasis Ramirez Wells -- Dimmick Lake

Updates

March 17, 2023: initial production data for the Oasis Ramirez wells.

The Oasis Ramirez wells come off confidential list this next week.

I'm sure there is an error on the NDIC map with regard to the Oasis Ramirez wells but I simply do not have the time, nor the interest, to explain what I'm seeing and why I believe the map is in error.

Once the wells come off the confidential list we can sort it out. In the big scheme of things it will not matter. 

I only looked at two of the Ramirez wells but I assume all of them will be 1280-acre spacing, sections 29 and 32 - 151 - 96, with one exception. The “BX” well (#38652) is a section line well, and 2560-acre spacing. The “X” is a tip-off that it’s a section line well.

The “B” designation means they are all middle Bakken wells. 

These are going to be incredible wells. It will be interesting to see the completion method.

To Determine The Amount Of Sand Based On FracFocus Data

To determine amount of sand (#38654), until the official report comes out, using data from FracFocus:

  • a gallon of water = 8.35 pounds
  • calculate amount of water in pounds (e.g., 12.6 million gallons x 8.35 pounds = 105.21 million lbs)
  • if weight of water in percentage is 89.76%, then 10.24% (by weight) is sand/ceramic
  • ask yourself: if 89.76% is percentage weight of water in total frack, how much was total completion mix (water + sand/ceramic)?
  • in this case:
    • 89.76% of the total frack was water by weight
    • water weighed 105.21 million lbs
    • 89.76% of what = 105.21 million lbs 
    • what = 105.21 / 0.8976 = 117 million lbs -- a moderately big frack;
  • continuing
    • 10.24% of the total frack was sand/ceramic by weight
    • 10.24% of 117 million lbs = 12 million lbs sand/ceramic 
  • I think my method works but my thinking could be faulty
  • This would be an estimation only
Checking my work:
  • in my example, total frack mix (water + sand/ceramic) = 117 million lbs
  • 89.76% of that was water, or 105 million lbs
  • 105 million lbs of water / 8.35 pounds (per gallon of water) = 12.6 million gallons, and that's where we started

Wells Coming Off Confidential List This Next Week -- March 11, 202

I came out to the pool at 2:00 p.m. today or thereabouts. It's now 5:54 p.m. CT, and it looks like I will be out here until 8:00 p.m. or maybe 9:00 p.m. It's been a bit breezy but the sun has been so hot / bright, I had to move in under the pool's pavilion, set on an "island" surrounded by the pool. 

It's 85°F right now -- the high was 88°F -- I think the forecast was for 86°. A few brave folks got into the pool. The water is still a bit cool. The rest of the week: temperatures will come down significantly, but I will enjoy the pool as long as I can. 

A lot of grilling.

Sports

Our granddaughter, Olivia, is a high school junior. She has been playiing soccer since she was five years old, starting while living in a Boston, Massachusetts, suburb. Her five-year-old mentor, Kiki, had started playing soccer when she was four years old.

Olivia now plays for her high school soccer team AND a  Dallas club team.  

Olivia is one of three captains for her high school soccer team. No one can recall the last tine a junior was named a captain of the team. Historically, those spots are reserved for seniors.

After last night's win, her high school team, the Grapevine High School Lady Mustangs won their sixteen consecutive district championshiip. 

Now, on to Regionals, where if history is any guide, they will take first or second place and advance to "State." If history is any guide, they will take second place at State. 

I can't speak for high school coaches but one would be surprised to hear how much college coaches are paid here in Texas. They take their sports very seriously here. 

Boys football: a high school coach was recruited to coach at a local college. Salary: $1 million dollar. He has been at that college for about five years. A nationally ranked college in north Texas is now recruiting him for their program, offering a salary in the range of $5 million. He has said he won't accept that position; he has too much allegiance to his current school ... but the college will have to increase his salary to make it somewhat more competitive with that other offer. One-million-plus dollars for coaching college football. Okay.
