Hebron Oil Field: An Active Little Field

Absolutely incredible day here in the Bakken. I took a drive out west of Williston to visit the Hebron oil field. This field is composed of only two townships. That oil field currently has about eight (8) wells or permits, with two (2) more just to the east (in Squires oil field); and one (1) well with rig on site just outside the northern boundary. Two of the eight wells/permits inside the Hebron have rigs on site.

For a little field, it sure is active. Except for two of the aforementioned wells (which are producing), all others are confidential. It is amazing the number of miles of new road that Continental Resources had to put in to reach these wells. I'm sure there was a road maintained by the local farmer/rancher, and perhaps the county, but the road would have been inadequate for all the trucks.

UPDATE

August 17, 2010: Another well, the Wiseman, has spudded in the Hebron oil field.

China Electricity -- No Direct Relationship to The Bakken, But One Can Connect The Dots

Burden in The Bakken

Burden in the Bakken?

Activity in Williston! I haven't read the article yet, but the activity in Williston defies description.

The first thing one notices when visiting the Bakken is the vastness of North Dakota and Montana. The second thing one notices, after all the building, is the large number of trucks. These semi's are literally looking for any open space to park. The activity conjures up visions of the oil boom in and around the Caspian Sea. There are probably similarities to the gold rush in California and, later, in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

I am impressed that I have not heard one story or seen one article on front page of any newspaper about crime or disorderly conduct. Of course it's there, but considering all the activity, I would have expected to hear something. Once winter arrives, ....well, I don't know.

Tent city in Williston: no room at the inn. There may be no room at the inn now but two more motels are going up; a third was just completed this past year. All three are within elating distance of the airport and just off Million DollR Way.
