It Appears BR Has Fracked The CCU Gopher Wells -- April 10, 2021

It appears BR has fracked the CCU Gopher wells in Corral Creek. These wells are part of the CCU-Bakken unit.

Example of one recently fracked CCU Gopher well:

  • 33810, drl,-->drl/NC, BR, CCU Gopher 8-2-15TFH, Corral Creek, as of 2/21, no change, but maybe starting to report production; fracked 12/16/2020 - 12/30/2020; 7 million gallons of water (moderate frack); 87% water by mass; no offset wells of interest;

Flashback: The Wells That Came Off The Confidential List One Year Ago, 2Q20 -- Re-Posted One Year Later, April 10, 2021

I update and track these wells that came off the confidential list in the second quarter of calendar year 2020 here

I will continue to update that page with stimulation dates and production numbers.

However, for the archives, I am going to re-post that entire 2Q20 list here and NOT UPDATE IT.

This is one year later, 2Q21.

Scroll through this list and look at all the wells that had been drilled and came off the confidential list one year ago, in the second quarter. It is now one year later. It will be interesting to see how many of those wells have been completed in the past year.

The Photo Page -- April 10, 2021

Earlier I referenced the Costco $1.50 soda and hot dog combo. Here's the story, over at Distractify. It's a very similar story to how Costco has kept their rotisserie chickens at $4.99 all these years.

Sent To Me From A Reader In Arizona -- April 10, 2021

The Bakken -- And The Men -- April 10, 2021

From the blog, February 28, 2021:

A reader brought this book to my attention: The Good Hand: A Memoir of Work, Brotherhood, and Transformation in an American Boomtown, Michael Patrick F. Smith, c. (released), February 16, 2021, 464 pages.

It's currently the #1 book over at Amazon in "Fossil Fuels."

From the LA Times, reviewed/published yesterday, February 27, 2021:

In the summer of 2012, Michael Patrick F. Smith read an article in Men’s Journal about the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota. At the time, he was working a white-collar job in lower Manhattan, living in Brooklyn, engaging in the drug- and alcohol-soaked bacchanal of “postadolescent” life available to any steadily employed white man in New York City. He was, it should come as no surprise, bored. So he sublet the apartment, bought a Chevy and drove to the site of the biggest oil boom in a century.

Now, today April 10, 2021, a reader sent me this, from today's edition of The NY Post:

Everyone seemed to have a violent relationship with their father, and almost everyone had a job in the oil fields or was looking for one, Smith recounts in his new book, “The Good Hand: A Memoir of Work, Brotherhood, and Transformation in an American Boomtown” (Viking), out now. They came from across the country, from states like Montana, Idaho, Washington, Tennessee, California, Texas and Florida, to make their fortunes in the oil boom.

Williston sits near the center of the Bakken Formation, “a subsurface rock unit bigger than the state of California,” Smith writes, “and one of the largest contiguous deposits of oil and gas on the planet.”

In 2008, as the US economy was in shambles and the housing market collapsed, Williston’s oil boom was just beginning, with prices peaking at $145 a barrel.

The Red River Diversion Project -- April 10, 2021

I don't know how I missed this story. This is a big story. The US Army Corps of Engineers' plan to "divert" the Red River of the North to help prevent future flooding disasters in the Fargo / Moorhead area.

Most recent news: the Minnesota DNR approved a permit; with that permit the $2.75 billion project apparently is one step closer to getting started.

Link here to the StarTribune. Data points:

  • the project has been stalled for many, many years
  • 36-mile "ditch" to divert floodwaters away from developed areas;
  • a flood control dam would back floodwaters up into farmlands and prairie on both sides of the river to the south;
  • the project will span some 30,000 acres, and will protect a quarter million people
  • anticipated construction: 2022 - 2027

Geology: the flat area in which Fargo/Moorhead is situated is an old, old dry lake bed: Lake Agassiz, and that explains why it so easily floods.

Atmospheric CO2 -- March 2021

Usually released on the fourth or the fifth of the month, this data was finally posted last night. It took longer than usual for "them" to massage the data.

But wow, talk about false precision. Out to the hundredth place for something measured in parts per million.

Change year-over-year as a percentage: 0.76%.

Ode To A Pipeline -- April 10, 2021

Normally this would be posted on "Schwa Nation" but it was too good to be "lost" over there.

This was sent to me by a reader who follows the Bakken pretty closely, having grown up in the area.

This pertains to the current status of the DAPL:

Angels on pinheads

Judges on pipelines

What is the protest?

Who has the timeline?

Sioux may object

Black snake they may say

Other tribes want

Their oil shipped away

We all heat with gas

And drive cars galore

I'm really too tired

To write anymore

King Solomon ruled

"Split the baby in two"

So maybe exactly

That's what we should do

You don't want a pipeline?

Fine, well, and then

Don't drive and  don't cook

Use solar and Zen

No airplanes

No fridges

No hot water baths

You'll walk slow and starve fast

Develop a rash

But water is life

So pump it by hand

'Cuz engines use power

All over the land.

Engines and Injuns

a pun unintended

It's way past the time

That this pipeline ode ended.
Throw in a few fanciful words and it would sound just like Dr Seuss. Of course, then it would be banned.

"Who has the timeline?"  Where is Dan Rather when we need him?

Texas High School Girls Varsity Soccer

Our middle granddaughter is a freshman who made the varsity girls soccer team at Grapevine High School, TX. Grapevine has a long history of very, very good girls soccer teams. For a freshman to make the team is quite remarkable, but that's another story, I suppose, for another time.

The Grapevine High School girls soccer team took the District Championship and then moved on to regionals.

Last night "Regionals" were played; there were two games.

The number one team, Highland Park, Dallas, was one of the four teams competing in "Regionals" and, of course were favored to win. They seem to win every year, and again, they would be the team to beat. Sort of like Gonzaga in NCAA men's basketball. My fear was that Grapevine would come in second at state, losing to Highland Park.

So, last night, I'm checking the results of the two games. No one in the family noted this!

Highland Park, Dallas, #1 in Texas, favored to take "State" was defeated in overtime! Whoo-hoo!

Highland Park, Dallas, is NOT going to "State."

But our Grapevine High School team is going to State

Grapevine High School defeated Amarillo, by a lopsided 3 - 1 score.

On top of that, our own granddaughter made the third goal.

Because there are so few goals in soccer, literally every goal counts. At 2 - 1, the team and the coach know that a lucky goal by the other team ties it up and easily goes to overtime where anything can happen (as it did to #1 Highland Park, Dallas, who will not be going to STATE this year).

So, at 2 - 1 it's still a close game; anything can happen. The coach is nervous; the parents are going nuts.

And then, Olivia -- our granddaughter -- scores!

2 - 1: it's still either team's game.

But 3 - 1? It's all over.

Grapevine is two games away from a state title.

There are four teams going to "State":
  • Grapevine is now ranked #31 nationally.
  • Frisco Wakeland is ranked #33 nationally.
  • Midlothian is ranked #197 nationally.
  • Celina is ranked #124 nationally.
The brackets suggests Grapevine will play Frisco Wakeland, and the winner of that game will play either Midlothian or Celina for the state championship.

The games are next week.
