Cheniere To Significantly Increase Production At Its Corpus Christi, TX, Facility --

I remember vividly the day I posted about the number of LNG export terminals planned along the US Gulf Coast -- many years ago. A reader reminded me that just because the terminals were planned did not mean they would built.

It's been comments like that, over the years, that have made my desire to keep posting the blog. The blog will continue -- the question is whether to keep posting. Whatever. Back to the subject at hand.

Cheniere Energy (LNG) announced in February, 2026, that it has filed an application with FERC to construct a new LNG plant in Texas. The project will expand LNG production capacity. Well, duh.

• location: Corpus Christi, Texas
• project: the "Stage 4" expansion of its existing terminal at that location
• will add four new liquefaction trains, two storage tanks, and a 26-mile pipeline
• capacity: will add a million tones per annum (MTPA) 

Update: the FID for Cheniere's "Stage 3" expansion announced in 2025; construction on that project was scheduled to last through 2030; budgeted at $8 billion. That project would only add two Midscale Trains 8 and 9.

Link here. A huge amount of money was moved into MMFs when the market crashed on February 5, 2026 -- only to surge the next day with the Dow going over 50,000 for the first time ever. 

For my, my parameters:

• unremarkable: +/- $25,000 -- increase / decrease by $25,000 uremarkable
• take notice: +/- $25,000 to $75,000 increase / decrease
• perhaps a stand-alone blg: +/- $100000 or more, increase or decrease

Schwab The Company

For the past few weeks, Schwab has been in the news as doing particularly well. It's share price has gone up significantly.

One would assume this means that more money is being funneled toward Schwab accounts, for whatever reason, and assuming most folks are fairly "steady" with their deposits, one of two things or both is / are happening.

The market is doing vecry well and perhaps it's simply an appreciation the assets that are already under management by Schwab. On the other hand, the growth in cash /MMFs under management has grown significanly more (see below) suggesting that Schwab is attracting more clients.

Again, Texas Vs New York -- February 7, 2026

Factoid: Texas is now on track to displace Virginia as the “large data center capital of the United States” -- that's now accepted reality.  

NIMBY: recently a number of articles have appeared about states suggesting dialing back on siting large data centers in their states for any number of reasons, but generally having to do with the grid even though the companies promoting these new sites are suggesting they will provide for their own electricity and won't affect the grid. New York, specifically:

New York state lawmakers have introduced legislation in February 2026 that would impose a three-year moratorium on the construction of new, large-scale data centers to study their impact on the environment and electricity costs. This move is part of a broader, growing trend across the United States where states are reconsidering the rapid expansion of AI-driven data centers due to concerns about energy grid strain, water usage, and rising consumer utility bills.

In a revolution, and in this particular AI revolution -- the fourth industrial revolution -- events move quickly, and putting a moratorium on new data centers for three years seems a bit hasty, to say the least.
