Wow, Wow, Wow -- Late Saturday Evening -- NDIC Posts 204 Active Drilling Rigs -- New Record -- The Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Dynamic link here.

A reader alerted me to this. I never would have thought of checking the NDIC site for active drilling rigs on a Saturday night!

It's two degrees below zero, or close to that -- maybe worse in the oil patch. Blowing wind. Light snow. And the folks in the oil patch are putting up a new rig. Plus working on 203 other rigs. Impressive.

I can't say enough about the crews working in North Dakota. I hope they all stay safe.

For folks out driving, give the trucks extra space.

Now, it seems to me Carhartt is the state clothier.

I love their television ads -- just happened to see another one during the LSU - Ole Miss football game. With the score 52 - 3, why am I still watching? I have no idea.

Gemar Photography -- Enbridge -- The Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Dynamic link here.

I assume the portraits will change over time, but right now the Enbridge portfolio is awesome.

If the current portfolio changes, my hunch is that a bit of searching and you will find it again.

Incredibly good photos.

Thank you to Don for alerting me to the photos where the link was found over at the Bakken Shale Discussion Group.

The best part of those photos? The telephone number on one of the signs with an area code of "701" -- the area code I grew up.  (Before it was "701" it was "Greenfield. Remember that?)

Water Will Not Re-Hydrate -- From the "Same" Folks That Promote Anthropogenic Global Warming -- Nothing To Do With The Bakken

Link here.

And, in Europe, if you promote water as a rehydrating agent, you are subject to fine.

Thank goodness this came out today; it took my mind off the president's permitorium in the Ohio Utica. It appeared the US was getting too close to becoming energy independent.

Banning water in Europe for human rehydration should free up a lot of water for fracking. Just saying.

Avalanche Warnings in November -- Global Warming a Risk for Montana Hunters

Link here.
Snow and windy conditions have prompted the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center to warn hunters to beware of avalanches as they hike into the mountains for the last week of Montana’s big game season.

In the past few days, the Cooke City area has received more than 20 inches of new snow. Chabot said it doesn’t take much snow at high elevations to create a slide with significant force.
On another note, it sounds like we will have more than enough water in Lake Sakakawea for fracking next spring/summer.

Update on Epping Colt Oil Loading Rail Terminal -- The Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Update

A reader provides this update: The Colt terminal seems to be progressing. Iwas through there a couple days ago. It looked like they were digging to connect to the old railroad tracks that run by the elevator. Three large tanks are up, but not done though. i can't tell if the tracks are on the embankments. -- November 19, 2011 Comment: that sounds about the same as the terminal at Trenton.

M-1-19H provides this update: I believe it is a company called Rangeland Energy; in place by December, 2011: 20-mile oil transmission pipeline to Williams Co. Storage on site,on site tankage, and served by BNSF. Contact 303-320-6242 need more info. -- November 19, 2011

Original Query
I received this comment seeking update:
Do any of the Brooklyn folks know how the Epping Colt Terminal is coming along? We passed it in August, and it appeared the ground had been broken, but not a lot of evidence of tank farms underway.

The only articles found are from early this year, and gut says they have a ways to go with construction.

Believe CLR has gas lines already in place in Brooklyn and rumors indicate an oil pipeline is also in the planning stage. Anyone have status of oil or gas gathering (pipelines) infrastructure in Brooklyn and where it runs to (e.g., Colt)?
If I get a chance, and it quits snowing, I may take a ride out there. I'm not sure where it is, but it must be near the railroad line. Smile.

Along that same line, the Trenton oil loading terminal is coming along; the oval track is laid.

North Dakota Bakken is Clearly in the "Manufacturing Stage"

The December, 2011, NDIC hearing dockets clearly reflect the Bakken is in the manufacturing stage. The oil companies are drilling out the leases they have.  Much of the December docket was devoted to unrestricted flaring (unrestricted production) and pooling, which I generally consider the last administrative step before drilling.

It is clear that the standard is seven wells in each 1280-acre unit; or four wells in each 640-acre unit. That's the standard, there are exceptions.

Some data points and/or exceptions:
  • 16417, EOG, extend Clarks Creek-Bakken, establish a 1920-acre unit, 8 wells, McKenzie
  • 16448, Enerplus, 5 wells on a 640-acre unit, Spotted Horn-Bakken, McKenzie
  • 16420, BEXP, amend Catwalk-Bakken, establish 2 1280-acre units, 8 wells on each, Williams
  • 16453, BEXP, 8 wells on a 1280-acre unit, East Fork-Bakken, Williams
16454, BEXP, 8 wells on each 128-acre unit, Kittleson-Slough-Bakken, Mountrail
  • 16424, Chimney Sweep, create a 320-acre unit, Stark County, Lodgepole Formation
KOG is starting to get into the manufacturing stage:
  • 16309, KOG, 6 wells on 1280-acre unit, Mandaree-Bakken, Dunn
  • 16310, KOG, establish 6 1280-acre units; 2 wells each, Hay Draw-Bakken, McKenzie
