Fossil Fuel Production Scenarios -- CO2 Emissions -- December 6, 2020
This is a weird chart. I've looked at it a number of times and went to the original report which can be downloaded as a pdf.
In fact, I'm not even going to try to explain it. I'll just get in deeper. Go to the source -- it will download as a pdf -- if you want to try to figure this graph out. The source is at this link. At the link, scroll to the very bottom to download the full report and the executive report.

Bayou Manchac
I know nothing about the "real topology" of Louisiana. If I had all the money in the world, I would hire a guide and spend a few weeks in the bayous.
I first came across "Bayou Manchac" while reading about the Mississippi Kite. My note, still in progress, can be found here.
From wiki:
Bayou Manchac is an 18-mile-long bayou in southeast Louisiana, USA. First called the Iberville River ("rivière d'Iberville") by its French discoverers, the bayou was once a very important waterway linking the Mississippi River (west end) to the Amite River (east end).
East Baton Rouge Parish lies on its northern side, while its southern side is divided between Ascension Parish (to the east) and Iberville Parish (to the west). The large unincorporated community of Prairieville and the city of St. Gabriel both lie on its southern side.
Now that I'm writing about this, it seems I have done this before. Bayou Manchac was a short cut from the Mississippi River back to the Gulf of Mexico where New Orleans is now, Lake Pontchartrain. The bayou (or river) was a shortcut or "back door" from the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico at New Orleans.
This is a great interactive map of the bayou.

US exports, imports: rise for fifth straight month. But look at this: shipments to China hit a record. Tea leaves suggest this will get even better next year. Is anyone else reporting this?

Johns Hopkins data updated at 11:37 a.m. ET. Active cases per 100,000 people, top five:
- Rhode Island surges to #1; at 772;
- Minnesota continues to surge, but drops to #2, at 732;
- SD back at #3 followed by Nebraska at #4;
- Indiana remains at #5; and,
North Dakota not on the list!
The "brown" has definitely become much less dark across the nation.

Sophia
Sophia's formal education is a balanced mix of reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Sophia has "specials" in art, music, and physical education.
Because she is a remote learner, I listen to her teachers at the same time as Sophia. I am very, very impressed.
I am getting quite a kick out of re-learning (and, in some cases, learning for the first time) the foundation(s) of art and music.
In music, Sophia has learned the difference between beat and rhythm. I hope her music teacher moves to the auditory attributes of musical tones: timbre, pitch, loudness, and duration. I doubt they will get to describing the diatonic scale which I find absolutely fascinating.
In art, Sophia learned about using only primary colors in paintings by Mondrian. And then, from there, painting using second colors from Theibaud.
It's quite interesting. When you google these subjects, it appears schools across the nation use similar programs for all students as a foundation or roadmap in teaching. Very, very interesting.
Because remote learning is more efficient in many respects than the "traditional" method of teaching, Sophia is also able to take Spanish and piano lessons.
Spectrum Cable Keeps Getting Better And Better -- December 6 ,2020
Moments ago I lost internet connectivity, here in north Texas, specifically, Grapevine, TX, home of DFW airport.
There were several possible reasons but all my connections seemed fine. After trying to log on again several times, finally it showed life, and less than five minutes later, the internet was up and running, everything back to normal.
Then, something I had never seen before: an "amber" alert on my iPhone from Spectrum saying there was an area-wide service outage in GRAPEVINE, TX, and that service would be restored by 1:30 p.m.
In fact, it was restored by 11:12 a.m. after being out for less than three minutes. I was most impressed that I got the alert.
Natural Gas-Fired Generation Has Increased Across The US With Minor Exceptions -- EIA -- December 6, 2020
- minor exceptions:
- NYISO,
- ISO-NE,
- California,
Hunch: the decline in natural gas-fired electricity generation reflects downturns in the general economy in those regions and/or state-mandated changes in energy sources and/or new pipelines.
Most amazing: PJM -- Ohio and east to the Atlantic Ocean, north of the NC-VA state line, and south of New England;
Interesting: ERCOT (Texas); Florida; SERC (southeast excluding Florida, Louisiana).

- Montecito Estate
- seller: Dennis Miller and wife
- buyer: Ellen DeGeneres
- deal: $49 million
- my hunch: Ellen not worried about wealth gap
- my hunch: Ellen and wife following California governor's decree to "stay-at-home"; could use estate for filming show, movie productions;
The deal was among a string of major transactions in Montecito over the past few months. Rancho San Carlos, a roughly 240-acre estate, recently sold for $63.25 million, and the sale of actor Rob Lowe's home home in the area recently closed for $45.5 million.
Ms. DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi are widely known to be investors in real estate and have long had a home in Montecito. They sold a Bali-inspired estate in the area for $33.3 million in November, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Tokyo 2020-One Olympics
Tokyo Olympics delay costs may reach $2.8 billion.
Actually if you read the story at the Fox Business link (https://www.foxbusiness.com/sports/tokyo-olympics-delay-costs-may-reach-2-8-billion) it appears to be much worse.
Tea leaves, Tokyo Olympics 2021 will:
- limit / ban guests from overseas
- limit number of athletes
- limit number of trainers and staff per athlete
- limit press
And, of course, there's always a chance we won't see the games at all this summer.
Data points from the linked article:
- cost of the postponement could reach $2.8 billion
- prior to the postponement, Japan estimated the total cost would be $12.6 billion
- but a Japanese government audit last year said it was likely twice that much, about $25 billion
- Tokyo said the Olympics would cost $7.3 billion overall when it won the bid in 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina
- the good news: Tokyo organizers said they could add about $260 million from a contingency fund to help cover added costs. LOL. No typographical errors on my part. I don't know whether the original source is accurate.
- the IOC is not being particularly helpful: it is unlikely that the IOC will chip in $650 million that was suggested by the IOC some months ago -- tea leaves suggest IOC not particularly optimistic about 2020-One Olympics going off as planned;
