NASCAR Tonight: 9:00 P.M. Central Time -- June 22, 2019

On FS1 supposedly. We will see. Truck racing.

Sunday, 2:00 p.m. Central Time. Also FS1.

Meanwhile, women's soccer, Norway beats Australia in a stunner. First time since 2003 that the Australians won't be in the quarterfinals.

And, yesterday's second round leader in the PGA tournament, leading by 5 strokes, is 6 strokes behind at the end of the third round. It was a 12-stroke swing -- the leader at the end of the third round had 7 birdies, no bogies on the back 9.

Little Missouri River Crossing

For the archives. I forgot to post this earlier.
The Federal Highway Administration and other cooperating agencies have released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Record of Decision for the Little Missouri River Crossing Project.

The EIS reviewed a number of possible alternatives for another Little Missouri Crossing between the Long X Bridge and Interstate 94. The project area is about 20 miles north of Medora and due west of Fairfield. The new bridge would connect Belle Lake Road with East River Road.

The preferred alternative would include construction of a bridge, about 600 feet long with three to five spans, resulting in one to three piers within the banks of the Little Missouri River. The final number of spans and piers would be determined during final design, based on hydraulic and geotechnical studies. The clear roadway width through the bridge would be a maximum of 36 feet. Total width of the bridge would be 38 to 40 feet depending on the traffic barriers.
Proposed alternatives, will load as a PDF to your desktop:

North Dakota With 15,000 Job Openings -- June 22, 2019

Link here.

Is this a headline in the mainstream media?

For the first time in recorded history, there are more jobs open in the US than peple looking for them.

And, yet, there is no wage inflation.

From the linked article:
  • officially: ND with 15,000 job openings
  • unofficially: ND with 30,000 job openings
  • the number could be much higher
  • of the 15,000 open jobs in ND, healthcare accounts for 2,500 -- more than any other industry in the state

Fastest Mobile Network In America? ATT -- June 22, 2019

Link here.
AT&T is the fastest mobile network in the United States according to PCMag's latest annual mobile network comparison, which was released this morning.
For the test, PCMag employees drove through 30 cities and 25 states across the U.S. and ran more than 60,000 mobile speed tests to determine the speediest mobile network. The tests were conducted using Samsung Galaxy S10 devices on networks from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint.
This year, AT&T edged out Verizon, the winner for the past five years, thanks to AT&T's focus on improving its LTE network in preparation for 5G technology. While all four networks improved overall on both speed and reliability compared to last year, AT&T improved a bit more than the others.
Overall scores:
  • ATT: 97
  • Verizon: 94
  • T-Mobile: 91
  • Sprint: 82
Graphics are quite stunning at the link.

I Was Unaware Google Even Made Tablets

Google will quit making tablets

iPad for as little as $249 on Amazon. Impossible to compete. But it is interesting: despite the increasing sizes of smart phones, it appears the Apple iPads are still in high demand. The only reason I have not upgraded to a new iPad: I can't decide what size to get. And the iPad Gen 2 seems to do everything I need it to do. It was first released in March, 2011, and still holds up well for those of us with limited needs for a tablet.

Maybe Christmas.

Pemex Says "No" To Deepwater -- Reuters -- June 22, 2019

Headline story but really nothing new here.

Link here.
Petroleos Mexicanos will focus on shallow water projects and onshore plays, and avoid investing in its deepwater riches for now, as the ailing Mexican state-run oil company seeks to turn around a 14-year slide in crude production.
While the company has drilled wells and made discoveries in Mexican territorial waters in the deepwater Gulf, and has a joint venture partnership in one such project with Australia’s BHP Billiton, it has yet to produce any oil or gas there.
Pemex’s current crude production averages just under 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd), down nearly a half from peak output of about 3.4 million bpd in 2004.
Just another story in a long line of stories that deepwater is currently out-of-fashion -- too much CAPEX; too long to bring to production at a time of great uncertainty.
