Twenty-Seven Permits Renewed; Five DUCs Reported As Completed; Three New Permits -- December 9, 2021

Disclaimer: this is not an investment site. I follow the market to put the Bakken in perspective and to better follow the fossil fuel vs renewable energy discussion.

I guess this might be one of the bigger investing stories today. I posted this earlier, not paying attention to the market:

December 9, 2021: Ford caps F-150 Lightning orders to 200,000. 

  • F-150 Lightning "pre-production" trucks already "produced," but consumer-bound truck deliveries "scheduled" for spring, 2022. 
  • Tesla has been forced to delay its first Cybertruck delivery to 2022. 
  • Rivian recently delayed the production of its R1T electric pickup truck from July to September (2021).
  • Lordstown is also having issues bringing its electric pickup to market. GM is expected to deliver the Hummer EV in the US by the end of the year (2021).

Now, at the close, surfing through the networks to get to Corner Gas I saw the crawler for the market today ... Lucid caught my attention, so I checked the EV stocks:

  • Lucid: crashed; down almost 20%;
  • Rivian: down over 6%
  • Fisker (FSR): down 5%
  • Nikola: down 4%
  • Tesla: down 6%
  • most interesting: F, capping reservations for its "hot" F-150 Lightning at 200,000;
    • this would be like Apple setting caps on how many iPhones it would sell
  • but Lucid is a special case, headline:
    • sell-offs of convertible senior notes; and,
      • an SEC subpoena over its SPAC deal
      • can you spell Theranos?

Three new permits, #38694 - #38696, inclusive:

  • Operator: Lime Rock Resources III-A
  • Field: Stanley (Mountrail County)
  • Comments: 
    • Lime Rock has permits for two Behr wells and one Harstad well, all in SWSW 9-155-91; 
      • the Behr wells will be sited between 470 FSL and 550 FSL and 325 FWL; 
      • meanwhile, the Harstad middle Bakken well will be sited right "on top' of one of the Behr wells, the Three Forks Behr well, at 550 FSL and 325 FWL

An incredible twenty-seven permits renewed:

  • CLR (20):
    • two Elveida permits in Divide County
    • three Bliss permits in Divide County
    • one Miles permit in McKenzie County
    • one Clear Creek Federal permit in McKenzie County
    • twelve Brangus FIU permits in McKenzie County
    • one Charolais South Federal permit in McKenzie County
  • Hess (5): 
    • five SC-JW Hamilton permits in Williams County
  • NP Resources (2)
    • two Audrey permits in Golden Valley;

Six producing wells (DUCs) reported as completed:

    What's going on with the NDIC and the GIS map? Surely after 4 months they could have fixed a problem. Are they going to update it or not. The map is extremely useful to me

    1. Sorry for the delayed reply. I slept in a bit this morning.

      You have no idea how frustrated several readers and I have become over this. One reader whose company relies on this data is particularly upset and has been in regular contact with NDIC on this issue.

      He updates me every time he speaks to "someone" at the NDIC.

      Bottom line: it appears we are getting the runaround. The agency says it is working feverishly to fix the problem and "hopefully" it will be accomplished by the end of "this" month. We've been told that each month since August, 2021.

      What follows below is some factual, some opinion.

      1. For whatever reason NDIC decided to update the IT interface that was presented to the public.

      2. Apparently, the NDIC switched contractors to migrate the data.

      3. Some have said that due to Covid one of the key IT folks working the project is working from home, eastern North Dakota, who has other jobs, and the NDIC project may not be his/her priority. I have no idea.

      4. Some say the new contractor is not up to speed in such projects, which of course leads to the big question? If there was a new contractor, how was he/she selected: lowest bid or family ties. Again, I have not idea; it's what some folks have written to tell me.

      5. The NDIC apparently has all this data in the format existed before -- someone tells me they saw an up-to-date map and scout tickets when discussing the issue, again apparently while attending a meeting at the NDIC. I don't know. But I can't imagine Lynn Helms "flying blind." He needs to know what's going on and he has to have a current map and he has to have current scout tickets.

      You know as much as I do -- essentially nothing. But again, the NDIC says they are feverishly working this problem and hope to have it "restored" by the end of the month. The NDIC did not say "which" month or "which" year, but when restored it will be at the "end of the month."

      In a reply like this there will be typographical and content errors. Most of this is my personal opinion based on what other readers have told me.

    1. LOL. My insight and $2.00 (now, with "transitory" inflation will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

      Seriously, I really don't know what's going on and I don't spend much time really analyzing the Bakken. I simply post what I see and what interests me. Mostly I'm doing this for mom-and-pop mineral owners who really don't understand what's going on.

      So, at the end of the day, I'm just another overly enthusiastic Bakken observer sitting at the table throwing out opinions.
