What Does "LL" Stand For In A Bakken Well Name?

This is really cool.

We all  know what "ULW" means -- thanks to a reader who answered the question for us.

Now, what does "LL" mean?
  • 27702, conf, QEP, Otis 28-29-32-33LL, Grail,
This is a well on a 1280-acre spacing unit: E/2 sections 29 & 32, and W/2 sections 28 and 33.  So this well will "straddle" the section line / spacing line between sections 28/29 and 32/33. So "LL" tells me that this is a well that will be drilling an "overlapping 1280-acre spacing unit."

Different operators have different ways of naming their wells; this is how QEP is doing it.

By the way, even though this well is still on confidential status, it is reporting great production:

This well comes off the confidential list on November 30, 2014.
