  1. I noticed on the September 17th docket that Hess in case #22955 asks to drill a horizontal well into the Lodgepole formation in Williams County and in cases #22956 and #22958 asks to drill horizontal wells into the Red River formation in McKenzie and Williams Counties. I don't tend to follow the hearing dockets all that closely, but seeing requests for horizontal wells into these formations in McKenzie and Williams Counties seemed unusual. Aren't stratigraphic test wells drilled into formations other than the Bakken and Three Forks in these counties usually vertical wells?

    1. You are correct; generally (always [?] vertical wells, at least what little I know). However, Slawson and/or Oasis (I forget which/both) have been drilling horizontal Lodgepoles. Also, the recent articles elsewhere about Bakken technology being used on older formations suggests that operators are trying something new.
