Random Update Of A Silurian Well Hitting The One-Million Mark

Updates

November 7, 2014: hits the one-million-bbl milestone

Original Post

I've added the following "monster" well to my list of items that need to be followed up on later next year.
  • 7571, 482/IA, Hess, Reitsch NCT-2 4, Blue Buttes, a Silurian well, t4/81; cum 998 12/13;
Note: this is a Silurian well, not a Bakken well; it was spud in 1981 and produced as recently as December 2013 (about 32 years).

It looks like this well might have some life in it yet. A sundry form was recently filed transferring this well from Hess to Hess Bakken Investments, the "new" Hess operator in the Bakken. Less than 2,000 bbls from a million-bbl well.

This is the recent production profile:

  1. Another monster well is the Rusch B 1 in the Sherwood Field (24-164-85). It's production depth is just a little over 4000 feet and it's cume is over 2.37 Million barrels of oil from the Madison formation. It is still an active well after 50 years of production. It has produced about 600 barrels of oil in the first months of 2014. This well likely cost less than $500,000 to drill and complete in 1964. You
    only imagine the net value of the total production. It might hold the title of the most profitable
    well ever drilled in North Dakota (adjusted for the value of the dollar in the past half century)..

    1. That's a great one; thank you for taking time to write.

      I missed that one -- it was not on my "Monster Wells" page. How I missed it, I don't know, so thank you for taking time to write. Some of these wells really are amazing, aren't they?
