Oil Refinery Regulatory Tsunami -- API

Proposed US Environmental Protection Agency regulations directed at refiners could put several US refiners out of business and place others at a significant disadvantage to overseas petroleum product manufacturers, American Petroleum Institute officials warned.

“At the same time, data suggest that the environmental benefits would be modest,” API Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Director Howard Feldman told reporters during a Feb. 10 teleconference.

API spent much of 2011 opposing an out-of-cycle proposal that would have imposed more stringent ozone standards, and EPA subsequently withdrew, he said.

Currently, API is concerned with proposed Tier 3 gasoline rules, greenhouse gas emission rules, and new sources performance standards for refiners, the third phase of EPA’s tailoring rule, and the boiler maximum achievable controllable technology rule, Feldman said.
Bottom iine: increased costs; "modest" returns on investment; costs passed on to consumer.

  1. The war on conventional energy continues. All the time our forked tongue president thinks it is great we are producing more oil and gas all the while behind the scene taking steps to make its production and use too expensive as a energy source.

    Lying liars from the get go. They expect us to be impressed with him and the brilliance he exhibits with his Columbia and Harvard education. This dude is in way over his head or is from a very sinister place.

    They simply can not be for economic growth and vitality for our country and keep doing what they are doing.

  2. Without more additional takeaway capacity it is hard to see an additional 20 to 25 thousand barrel a day production each month. In just 4 to 5 month that is an additional 100,000 barrels a day production. Roughly another unit train and then some.

    I don't know how fast they are putting out new tanker cars but it better be pretty fast. Canada will be sending more sin-crude by train also.

    Trains, trains coming and going. Trains everywhere! The faux-enviromentalist and their foolishness.
