Palomar Modular Buildings is a direct manufacturer that can turnkey an oilfield man camp on a prepared site in a matter of weeks.

As a commercial builder of prefabricated modular buildings, Palomar has experience constructing dormitories, laundry facilities, recreation halls, commercial kitchens, dining facilities and much more.   1. Would be interesting to know more about man camps. How many?
    What is the size ? Where are they located (town/city/rural)? Who owns them (o cos or third party landlords) ? What is cost of rent to the occupant?
    My sense is that even though there is housing (single family detached and appts/condos) under construction that developers are operating on the assumption that it is very easy to overbuild as the current boom, while much more robust than past booms will still experience a down cycle at some point even if it is years away. Seems to me that man camps once they are in existence tend to discourage conventional housing development. And the more man camps, less conventional housing. The reason is that the primary driver of demand is the oil boom. When (and it could be a long time) activity tails off, western ND will be headed back in the direction of pre boom economics.

    1. Lots of information has been posted on the blog re: man-camps.

      Unfortunately not easy to find. I do have a label/tag for man-camps but I didn't start using the label until fairly recently. It would take the time and skill (and interest) of an investigative journalist to learn all there is about man-camps in the Bakken.

  2. I guess the direction I would be thinking if I were a real estate investor in western ND (which I am not) is that man camps or manufacturered homes/offices are the place to invest. They can get finished faster than conventional are less expensive and to me that means less risk of exposure to a slowdown when it does come.

    1. There has been much discussion on this. What you say is true but there is a huge segment of the population in North Dakota who do not want to see any more man-camps.
