Seven (7) New Permits -- Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Daily activity report -- June 1, 2011 --

Drillers: QEP (2), Oasis (2), BEXP, Whiting, and CLR

Fields: Heart Butte, Camp, Brooklyn, and three wildcats

This may be a first: Oasis is going to put two wildcat wells on the same pad; in Williams County.

QEP's two permits are for the same pad in Heart Butte oil field.

The third wildcat will be Whiting's.

There were not new production results posted today.

  1. The Whiting wildcat is interesting. They drilled in 143-105, and 141-104, then permitted another in 143-105 and now this one in 141-105. All of these are a long distance from their existing production in 144-103 and 143-103.

It shows they are serious about this as a potential new play. It appears they're trying to define the boundaries of it. I hope they are successful. This would open up an entirely new area.

  2. I agree. Whiting is currently the most interesting Bakken company to follow.

CLR is the "face" of the Bakken with 22 rigs and a hand in 1 out of 6 wells drilled in the Bakken (either operated or non-operated participating).

But WLL seems to have their cash cow operations in the north (the Sanish), are developing a new area north of Belfield (in the south) and now these wildcats in the far southwest.
