Missouri River South of Williston Flooding and Backing Up of Lake Sakakawea -- June 4, 2011

These photos were taken on June 4, 2011, just south of the Missouri River bridge south of Williston, North Dakota.

Normally this is farmland, mostly for hay. We used to pick plums on the west side of US Highway 2 in this area.

Now it looks like the mouth of the Amazon River in Brazil.

  2. You are welcome. Even these pictures don't begin to tell the story, and the pictures only start to make sense to those who know what this area used to look like.

This is one huge lake where there is not supposed to be a lake. It is quite impossible to describe.

Thank you for taking time to comment.

I will be in the local area for another week or so; if you have a request for a specific photo and it's nearby I will do my best to get the photo.
