Wow, wow, wow: Williston -- Population, 15,000 -- $1.35 Billion in Taxable Sales in 2010

Original Post

Link here. (Regional links break early and break often.)

Only Fargo had greater taxable sales than Williston in North Dakota.
  • Fargo: $2.2 billion
  • Williston: $1.35 billion
Unfortunately no other data was provided in this very short article.

$1.35 billion / 12,000 people --> $90,000/person in Williston. Okay.

For Fargo, $2.2 billion / 106,000 people --> $21,000/person in Fargo. Hmmm.

  1. Does that mean that the local (Williston) sales tax of 1% raised $13,500,000 for the new Middle School in 2010? The entire bond was only $15MM (several years ago). They also collected for the first quarter of 2011. Another $3,375,000? Somebody needs to do an audit.

  2. Wow again!!! Williston just short of taking over Fargo by 13million. Williams County did overtake Cass in Taxable sales for 1st quarter of 20100. Pretty Impressive! Check out the link fromt he ND State Tax dept. below:

  3. I must be missing that; I don't see it, except in the very last column, taxable sales and purchases for first quarter, 2011, Williams County did surpass Cass County, but in all other categories it appears to me Cass County was still number one, unless I missed something, which is possible.

    For 1Q11, taxable sales and purchases:
    Cass County: $543.6 million
    Williams County: $550.6 million
