179 Active Rigs: Definitely A New Record -- Bakken, North Dakota, USA

Some days ago I was alerted that there were 179 active rigs in North Dakota, which would have been a new record. I personally did not see it, and the "179" was there for such a short time, most of us, including me, did not see it.

However, now I see it. Officially the new record of "179 active drilling rigs" has been reached.

  1. Bruce,

Lynn Helms was on prairie public radio this morning with some interesting numbers. The story isn't posted yet on prairies web site. I think AP and some local media picked up on some of what he had to say. He's talking about 10,000 wells by mid June 2013 and adding six newly built rigs a month thru the end of this year. Also, over 400 permits are backlogged. Ouch!
