For the Record: BTA Wells Are Now Sequels; URSA Resources With New Permit

In today's daily activity report, July 21, 2010, it appears all of the wells operated by BTA Oil Producers, LLC, have been acquired by Sequel Energy, LLC. This is the first time I have heard of Sequel.

In addition, a relatively uncommon name in the Bakken, URSA Resources Group, LLC, has been granted a permit, #19205, in Pierre Creek oil field, McKenzie County; it will be a long lateral.

  1. A little insight I have on Sequel. Joe Nance was the owner of Nance Petroleum in Billings and was a partner with St Mary Land company. He sold out a little over a year ago and started a new company, Sequel. They purchased about 100 wells from St Mary and now some production from BTA. Sequel is located in Billings,Mt.

  2. Thank you. That connects a few dots. When I went through my database I thought I saw some St Mary wells involved, but didn't know the back story.

Also, I noted that in the hearing dockets, where it used to be "St Mary," it's now "SM." At least I think I recall seeing that somewhere. Certainly on the active rig listing, it is now "SM Energy" and not "St Mary."

    Thanks for the information.

  4. I wish I could help, but there is too much for me to cover just in North Dakota.

The folks over at the Teegue discussion group have been very, very helpful and they straddle North Dakota and Montana.
