This is a second bench Three Forks well. The USGS does not yet have enough lower bench wells in the Three Forks to complete an adequate survey but for those folks that are inappropriately exuberant about the Bakken, this is a pretty nice omen of things to come.  

 Production in less than two full months:
  • crude oil: 152,453 bbls
  • natural gas: 35083 boe
  • total boe: 187,536 boe in 55 days

According to news accounts, although new drilling techniques have greatly increased oil production in Bakken formation in recent years, as of February 2011 that region was still yielding less than half a million barrels per day. Last update: March 10, 2011.
Jane Nielson:
The Bakken? Don’t believe it.
There’s some oil to be gotten out of Bakken, and it’s going to be exploited. But the “bonanza” is nothing but hype.
