I'm getting tired of Trump getting drawn into the same trap as his predecessors -- he's not quite there yet, but he certainly seems to be getting close.
I see three possibilities, none of the three include the levels of intensity seen earlier. All three choices are various degrees of "managing" the strait. He will use the time to discuss with allies what the allies would like to see with regard to the US having a more permanent land-based presence. He's getting close to a "Korean-truce" end-state.
For the sake of the sailors he needs to rotate the carrier groups so the crews get some shore leave.
