Completed Well Data For 1Q14 Updated

IPs for 1Q14 have been updated.

A few things jump out:
  • increased activity and better IPs in Blue Buttes oil field
  • incredible Sanish wells being drilled by Halcon
  • a disproportionate number of Zavanna wells remain on DRL status
  • WPX completed only 12 wells in 1Q14; WPX owns 7% of the reservation
An example of a Halcon Sanish well in Antelope oil field:
  • 25524, 2,584, HRC, Fort Berthold 152-94-11B-14-5H, Antelope field, a Sanish formation well, t3/14; cum 156K 6/14;

    1. It's a very, very slow day today.

      Wow, that $65 million development will certain change Watford City.

      Thank you.

  2. The high IPs are interesting, but I would really like to see if they are born out by continued production. EOG in particular has had a reputation for years now of tweaking things to make the IP high, even to the point of sacrificing reservoir management. (There was a DrillingInfo post on this a few years ago...and that is a very sound, industry focused source...not some conspiracy site.)

    Also, the cum curves for the overall industry that I have seen (by "Enno") show that recent years are essentially no change in well cums for last 4 years.

    Net, net: I think IP is a consideration, but overfocused on. Cums are more important. [yes, there is some time value of money to getting more earlier...but even then, if you are trying to follow the how many barrels for America story, you need to watch out for dropoff. It's also possible that some of the high IP stuff is more for the press than for the $$.]

    1. Yes, the IP story has been discussed at length; it was a "hot" topic early on in the blog.

      It is simply one data point; if one notes the IPs of various operators day-in / day-out, and then by field, one gets a feeling for how good a well might be based on the IP. In this particular case, the Halcon well in this post, the IP was interesting, but that's now why I posted it. The cumulative production of this well was 165,000 bbls in less than four months.

  3. Floyd Wilson of Halcon has stated that the fort berthold they are drilling now are 1 million plus BOE wells, truly amazing

    1. Thank you. I had not seen that. This is about the third different company/individual/analyst who has mentioned million-bbl-EUR wells in the Bakken. I think Filloon was to note that about two years ago. I forget who was next. I tried looking for some old posts on million-bbl-EUR wells but couldn't find any; might look again later.

      The big question is how long have the operators in the Bakken known that there were areas in the Bakken that would deliver million-bbl-EURs. I bet for several years. Their computers are better than ours.
