SCROLL DOWN FOR THE LIST

Sources Regarding Fracking

Liberty Oilfield Services wa the top pressure pumper in the Bakken in 2016; Liberty Oilfield Services bought out bankrupt Sanjel; about 20 frack companies in North Dakota right now; only about 8 frack crews working in North Dakota now, October 7, 2016.

"Top Ten" List
National and Regional Companies Providing Hydraulic Fracturing Stimulation Services

1. Schlumberger (Hiway process)
2. Halliburton
3. Sanjel -- bankrupt in 2015 (thereabouts); bought out by Denver-based Liberty Oilfield Services
4. Baker Hughes (subsidiary BJ Services Company) (added after first comment below)
5. Frac Teck (in North Dakota, see comment below, several comments down)
6. CalFrac (complex located west of Williston at Four-Mile Corner; see comment; expanded; 4-spreads)
7. Weatherford (huge presence in Williston; search blog for "Weatherford")
8. Pumpco (see first comment below)
9. Trican: e-mail received November 25, 2012, says it is located in Minot;

10. Cudd (located west of Williston; acidizing, but not yet fracking is what I've heard)
11. Complete Production Services -- merged with Superior Energy Services, as of February 7, 2012 (subsidiaries in Watford City, Richardton, Williston -- not sure if they do pressure pumping in ND)
12. Key Energy Services (in Williston, Tioga, Dickinson, Sidney; not sure if it fracks); a reader says that Key Energy no longer in North Dakota, November 25, 2012; another reader says the company is still in Williston, Sidney, Dickinson;

13. Patterson-UTI (not in North Dakota at present time)
14. Superior Well Services (service center in Williston; not sure if fracking)
15. Gas Frac Energy Services [GSFVF](frac with propane and nitrogen, not water), a Canadian company; not in ND Bakken?; a reader says that Key Energy no longer in North Dakota, November 25, 2012;

16. C&J Energy Services (website map shows Bakken; links mention Bakken, but website does not say they are in the Bakken).  C&J acquires Casedhole Solutions (effective June 7, 2012)  and Casedhole Solutions is solidly in the Bakken. According to the website, Casedhole Solutions is in the non-frack pressure pumping business (non-frack). [See comment dated: February 26, 2013.]
17. Chesapeake -- see below. FTS -- a 30-percent-owned subsidiary (FTS International -- formerly known as Frac Tech Services -- to go public in 2012.
18. RockPile Energy Services, LLC, created by and majority owned by Triangle Petroleum, a small operator in the Bakken
19. Chesapeake's Performance Technologies, see comments. Not in North Dakota.
20. See comments: Liberty Resources, which also fracs Zavanna's wells.
21. TAM International, announces Bakken regional headquarters to be established in Dickinson, November 27, 2012.
22. Liberty Oilfield Services, bought out bankrupt Sanjel, see October 7, 2016, news above.

Note: Key Energy Services (KEG): first time I had heard of this company was when Cramer recommended it on CNBC, January 9, 2012. See update and comments regarding KEG at this post. As noted above, I received an e-mail November 25, 2012, suggesting this company is no longer in North Dakota.

Yes, this list has more than 10 names on it, but this way I can track of them. Also, Chesapeake, I believe might do their own fracking -- at least I think I read that with regard to their natural gas wells in the east.

  2. Complete Production services ( CPX ) has Harold Hamm as a major shareholder, they have service trucks in Baker MT and Bowman. so i would guess they have service rigs up north in the Bakken.

  3. Very interesting. I did not know that, but I have not had time to look into these other companies. I appreciate the feedback.

  4. I heard the wells in the Bakken are behind schedule for fracing. Anyone know how far behind the fracing crews are?

    ReplyDelete
  5. This site has talked about fracking backlog on numerous occasions.

I'm not sure what one means by "how far behind fracking crew are?"

It all depends. If the drilling schedule remains on track and the operator has dedicated fracking crews, there is no problem.

If the drilling schedule is disrupted, the fracking schedule is disrupted and operators without dedicated fracking crews have a devil of a time getting a well fracked.

For the past several weeks now, three to four wells come off the confidential list on average every day. Of those three of four wells, either two or three are placed in DRL status, meaning they are waiting to be completed, which generally means waiting to be fracked.

The confidential clock runs for six months starting with date of spudding. They can reach total depth in less than one month. If the well comes off confidential list and is put on DRL status it means that well is already five months behind in getting completed (fracked).

So, to answer your question, it appears that in general, one can expect two out of three wells, maybe three out of four wells, coming off the confidential list to be delayed five months in getting fracked.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Today an unusually high number of wells came off the confidential list.

Of the ten (10) wells coming off the confidential list, five (5) were placed in DRL status, waiting to be completed (which generally means waiting to be fracked). These wells have waited at least five months to be fracked and are still waiting.

  7. Thanks for explaining the fracking backlog.

I was just wondering, because a well where I have mineral interests finished drilling in late April and there is no pump...just the wellhead. So I knew it hadn't been completed (fracked) and wanted a general idea when it may be completed.

Now there are two more permits for the area (~1/4 mile; same section) from this well.

  8. I could be wrong, but fracking and a pump are not related.

Some wells continue to flow naturally after fracking and don't need a pump.

If oil is being produced at that well, it may have been fracked even if it does not have a pump.

But again, without knowing more, the file number, or name of the well, I could be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was assuming a pump as all other wells in the area are being pumped and flared.

The file number is 19646 - T157R100 Section 2 and still confidential

    ReplyDelete
  10. I will do a stand-alone post with an example that fracking and a pump are not related.

    ReplyDelete
  11. With regard to 19646. This is a wildcat (along with some others) in a very interesting location.

Again, this is why I enjoy the blog. I would not have paid attn to these wildcats had "anonymous" above not written in regarding 19646.

Another stand-alone post is in order.

    ReplyDelete
  12. While I have your attention regarding 19646, the permit to the south (21161) is a permit for "EXTENSION".

Do you know what they mean by Extension?
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  13. See my post:
    http://milliondollarway.blogspot.com/2011/07/interesting-group-of-wildcats-near.html

I assume this means they want to extend the nearest oil field (the Dublin?) and use the same NDIC rules for spacing, flaring, etc., for this well, that the NDIC used for the Dublin field (if that's the closest field).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Frac Tech is also fracking in ND now. Weatherford, C&J, Patterson, CUDD, Complete, and KEY are not fracking in ND as of now.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thank you very much. I will update the list.

I originally put this list up because so many folks asked or searched the names of the fracking companies in North Dakota. I assume either for investing or looking for a job.

  16. GasFrac is a Canadian company, not in the Bakken yet, but just within the last year they moved some equipment to Texas and started up there. They also have done a couple wells back east in the shale gas. With all the squaking back east about hydraulic fracturing, this may have the potential to really catch on. They use a gelled propane mix which obviously costs more than water so its more expensive up front, but it can just stay downhole and doesn't have to be swabbed back and disposed of. It is recovered during normal pumping of the well. So a lot less truck traffic. Their stock ticker is GSFVF.PK. I am long a few shares, and watching them closely.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Great post, thank you. I have to be reminded of the GasFrac story periodically.

On another note, see Cudd up there, not in North Dakota yet. There is a sign west of Williston, future home of Cudd.

  18. I now see that the tracking equipment is on site at our well, but have no idea how long the process takes. There are two wells together at the site. What is the usual time frame from the time of tracking to the time of production? We now live far away and are trying to track the progress from a distance, would appreciate some help

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Tracking" or "fracking"?

    I assume you mean fracking.

It takes only a few days to frack each well, but the company will decide when to test, and once tested, they don't have to report results until the end of the confidential period (6 months from date of spud). If the confidential date has elapased, then the company has 30 days until after the well has been completed; this process can be soon as the 30 days is up or in some cases I've seen it drag out for months.

Generally, though it should be a) at the end of the six month confidential period; or, b) 30 days after the well has been completed.

I can provide more information in many cases if I have the well name or the file number.

  20. Weatherford frac crew (not sure exactly how many) are going to be in ND this spring. They have job ads on www.jobsnd.com and on weatherford's website. Equipment operators, etc. Can we assume they'll set up shop at the new weatherford complex that will be built east of Williston by Stony Creek??? Hmmmmmm.

20400 is still on the DRL list, and I have no additional information.

20966, IP = 3,082 bbls; BEXP, William 25-36 1H, Camp, Bakken, 39 stages; 4 million lbs total proppant; 2.4 million lbs ceramics

The system can monitor frac and water tanks, H2S,and gps of critial assets eg well head ,pumps etc. I upload this information to wirelessly to cellular or satellite networks. I have a SAAS application that came be accessed by the responsible stakeholder via the internet from any remote location. Informationm can be used for example by service companies doing waste water or oil pickup by using an optimized routing program based on tanks needing to be serviced. The system can be easily be moved to a different well site location because there is no wiring required.I can be reached at johngcrump@gmail.com for more informatioon.
